As the thread from 'Strastone E-Mail' has moved on a bit I thought it was worth starting a new thread, this may be controversial but we live in a democracy and most leading edge comapny's spend huge amounts on trying to obtain honest, objetive, and importantly impartial feedback on their products or services. I hope this thread is recieved as intended, ie to provide constructive feedback to MMC and hope they secure another 'Customer for life'
What I love about a Morgan:
The shape and form The traditional look with modern underpinnings The Performance The smell of wood and leather The fact that it feels 'special' when you get in it The Fact that it is different to 99.9% of cars on the road You can have any colour option you want It puts a smile on your face when the sun is out (or at least not raining)
What I don't love:
Trads Not a lot I don't expect it to be water tight or have luggege space its an old design with modern engine and gearbox The current Roadster dash is well?(you fill in your own descripton,as many letters as you like, four will probably suffice)
Areo Derivatives
Water tight hood Reclining seats (as per the trad) Paint that doesn't bubble after a few years Side exhaust that don't change their 'Angle of exit' due to a crap design
I don't think that's an extensive wish list and am willing and able to put my mouth and HUGE amounts of Custard behind it , PM for a screen shot of my current Bank Balance.
For the record, I'm not interested in: Having tea with CM Going round the factory, having done that years ago Having a jolly in the South of France with a load of folk in Rose tinted glasses hoping it does'nt rain
I'd simply like a Morgan with a roof that doesn't leak when it rains, if that is too much to ask I'm sure you will let me know.
Unfortuntely I don't have access to CM or I would tell him myself.
The future is in water tight hoods not wood/magnesium electric cars! Or is it?

If the bank Account is good, why not take the time to design and manufacture your own Hood, then when 100% perfect Produce and sell it as an after market. SIMPLES

A small consolation but the Lotus Elise suffers from paint blistering for a different reason, and it's very common (apparently). They also leak when it rains. Small producers of convertibles eh? For some reason it doesn't put me off. It may be a result of water based paint. Any thoughts on that Dean?

Dave its actually nothing to do with the Paint, Water or Solvent, Blistering is perferation from behind !!
Not familier with the Primers MMC are using to base the Panels, so i am un able to comment
Paint Shop Body shells are painted in a semi-clean environment using solvent based paint. Shells are dipped in chemical tanks to cleanse them of any oils picked up on the panels during their manufacture in Body Shop. Once bodies have been dipped and cleansed, they are then immersed in an anti-corrosion paint dip called ED (Electrocoat Dip). This 'dip' coats the entire body, both inside and outside, and is the first paint coating it will receive. Once the 'dipped' body has been stoved in the ED oven, the body progresses to the 'Sealing' Booth. In this booth, the body has its interior panel joints, floor, tailgate, hood and door edges sealed with a PVC based sealant, to prevent water ingress and corrosion as the car is driven on the road. Also within this zone, sound pads are added to the floor and boot to reduce road noise (standard practice in the motor industry). The next booth it enters is the 'Underbody' Booth. In this booth, similar to 'Sealing' Booth, the body's wheel arches are sealed using the same PVC based sealant. Robots then apply the underseal to the underfloor and wheel arches. Also robots are used to apply the SGC (Stone Guard Coat) layer to the sills: this coating is designed for abrasion resistance, i.e. preventing stone chips, scuffs, etc. From here, the body proceeds into the Undercoat Oven. The next zone is 'ED Sanding' booth where the body is inspected for any minor imperfections received in the ED Coat. The next zone is the 'Surfacer' Booth, where the body receives its second coat of paint, this being the Surfacer Coat, then into the Surfacer Oven. Next is 'Surfacer Sanding' Booth: the same as ED Sanding, this zone inspects the body for any imperfections picked up within the Surfacer coating. Next comes the 'Topcoat' Booth, where the body receives its final coats of paint, these being Topcoat and Clearcoat layers. After being stoved in the Topcoat oven, the body then enters the 'Touch-up' Booth where the body has its final inspection for any imperfections picked up in the Topcoat process. Once the body leaves here, it then moves on to the PBS (Painted Body Store) above Trim and Chassis to await the next step in the production process. The processes a modern day mass producer would use, i doubt 'as a small number producer' Morgan will not have the ability to put this method into practice.

Im not sure its even that difficult, if MMC would decide what its business is and how its going to get there then there are a number of options for renting capability or even building it and this applied to many areas, there is good business to be had offering it to other specialist companies or oems who dont have space on there production line or want to make prototypes.
Paint shop.
For example at the moment Halewood is bursting at the seems because of the paintshop capacity is 45 jobs and hour, and they have been tweeking to get it upto 47 jobs and hour, but they are building 55 cars an hour on the line so its a mess. All the specials are having to be part built and shipped to solihull for painting. Because of the new rangy that is almost full. so when they put the F type online next summer they will need outsourced capacity for the autobiography range.
similar situation for a number of the big oems that painting is a real mess as its an area they are trying to use to attract custom.
In the UK there are atleast 100 vehicle producers who need this type of capacity, this ranges from military, motorsports, agriculture.
Tooling I guess most of you wouldnt believe that most of the koenigsegg tooling and all the prototypes were built in derby, and this is only one of many parts which UK does.
MMC could make a good business in helping other companies assemble pre production prototypes, or even doing parts of other tasks its self for the aero and then selling these services.
but may be im not romantic enough
I think there are a few more items to add to the list
1. better wood treatments, if your going to use real wood inside then it needs to be properly protected from as a start european weather, with its changes in humidity and temperature
2. HVAC which works, this isnt a luxury item its a necessity, if you ant see where your going it really doesnt inspire enjoyment
3. Wipers which work.
4. if i was being really picky a more sensible way to access the boot as this is not exactly erganomically optimal on the aero.
Overall an improved communication of the plan.

Well put Frank. It seems that the most vocal posters about everything that is "wrong" with Morgans on this thread seem to be those who don't actually own one. Certainly there are some problem areas, however those of us that have shelled out our hard-earned cash on Morgans seem to like them, and in the main we know and accept their foibles, and enjoy improving them during our ownership.
No disrespect Gwyn, with the success of the 3 wheeler the factory is not at a loss for how to pass the time of day; diversifying into areas that aren't their core business right in the middle of a recession when they have evolved a long tradition of doing things a certain way (which has worked reasonably well so far), would seem to me like the fast track to disaster.
I dare say that the MMC appreciate the unsolicited "You know what you should do...." advice as much as I do when one of my punters starts telling me how to run my pub. (In my case the suggestions are usually how I should dish out free drinks, cut my prices, get in a deejay, do ghastly theme evenings and so on).

Dawn on a frosty Dartmoor feels special and I love it. These cars are greater than the sum of all the parts and the real enthusiasts are happy to live with a little bother from time to time. A little bit of dampness in the cabin, don't even notice it and on a trad surely everyone must be expecting a bit of ingress. When someone assured me that the Max had similar habits I was surprised considering the price differential between these two models though.

I can't see there being a market for a leak proof hood as it looks as though I'm the only person who wants one, and would apprently detract from the pleasure of ownership
