Maybe I can add it to the justification for the Max on the next round. All other justifications accepted from my better educated posters. It all aids in the next "upgrade in investment portfolio". I have to live in hope.

Investment - well David has a car that will lose very little over the next few years before the used value stabilises. I don't know whether Maxs have reached the bottom of the curve yet Alistair... Not that there can be much of a drop with such a low volume produced. Difficult to judge guess.

Sorry that our pre trip meeting did not yield any funds for your cause, but I will not forget the beautiful Grunt & Roar of your V8 as you left, with you Grinning from ear to ear again, I'm sure.

So if I've read this correctly what one or two people want is MMC to spend hundreds of thousands on development of a roof as I'd guess at a minimum. mainstream manufacturers do, but do this wIthout affecting the list price of the car as £70-80k is to much.

It's a Morgan at the end or the day, and as such should never be driven wIth the roof up.

Do you think Steve Simmonds spent hundreds of thousands of pounds developing his leak free hood?

Also whilst "one or two" people want a leak free hood does that imply that the remainder would find a leak free hood on a Morgan either not an improvement or actually a backward step?

"Never driving a Morgan with a hood up" is fine for the owners who drive on nice dry days, but I would imagine that a fair few owners would like to drive the cars when they want to, not just when the weather is clement.

Neil - Since your is an accountant she will no doubt know that the list of collectibles (formerly fine art, wine etc) that benefit from Capital Gains Tax exemption has been greatly reduced.

However, a qualifying 'Wasting Asset' still benefits from CGT exemption of gains on disposal - including cars and other mechanical items such as guns, watches, clocks, steam engines etc. In short, man toys which meet the HMRC definition of 'a machine which can be expected to have a working life of less than fifty years'.

Of course, rather than irreversibly declining in value as a function of time, many categories of wasting asset have done exactly the opposite in recent years as poor returns from traditional and highly-taxed asset classes have prompted investors to look at non-traditional asset classes which, for the time-being, also look to be fairly tax-effective. Witness classic cars, watches etc - all rising in value.

So here's your answer - it's a tax mitigation AND asset diversification strategy. My wife bought this story when I came home and told her I'd bought a traction engine (made my Aeromax look cheap...)
