It was hairy. Very. It had (allegedly) a '59 DBR2 race engine - which was quite a fuss to start. From memory is was two 1/4 inch pumps, then a full one, then attempt to start. An incredibly quick car.

It was repainted and sold on - I'll see if I can dig out the repainted image....

James Martin is a very lucky guy to get to drive 15 laps of Monza in a '73 Tyrrell. Strange they couldn't train him to say the word 'formula' correctly when presenting a programme about a Formula 1 legend. Jackie Stewart has certainly done very well for someone Max Moseley describes as 'a certifiable idiot'!

Should we regard Max as our yardstick for 'normal'? smile

I went to a corporate lunch where Jackie Stewart was the guest speaker earlier this year. He was in Australia to help push for a dyslexia education program (as he has done in the UK).

He was a true inspiration.

I've tried to replicate Mr Martin's way of saying "Formrula", but I can't do it. I was reading Autosport every week, and Stewart was very unpopular in period for his obsession with safety. History and hindsight though have showed him to be at the cutting edge of what became the norm. I think he's a difficult bloke to warm to, but he may have gone on to greater things had he not retired when he did. Time has not been quite so kind to Helen. She was gorgeous...................

If you recall....When James Martin did the Mille Miglia documentary, the affable chef persona was quickly overcome by a red eyed demon when things didn't go so well.

I guess these highly 'driven' people are very single minded and are not disposed towards becoming 'Mr Popular' but more towards 'Mr Top of their Game'. As you spotted Dave, James Martin's competitive nature came out in the Mille Miglia. I guess nobody argues with him in the kitchen, especially when he's wielding a knife and smiling!

Unfortunately I missed both progs - will wait for repeats - not enough time to run via iplayer for now...

Cheers,
