Seems to be Aero price bracket, but technolgy will be expensive.

To me it looks like an Aero Noddy would have designed.

and people complain about UK kit car designs. banghead

Saying it's Lotus based is a bit unfair - the point of the car is the drivetrain and that's pure Tesla - they've (Elon Musk) invested a lot into it. Aston use an extension of Lotus' architecture but you wouldn't say a DB9 is Elise-based. Cosmetics don't tell everything!

Edit: shocking gin-induced grammar.

Agreed. it's what the Japanese would call a 'Bakku-Shan' (a woman who looks good from behind but disappointing from the front. Yes, they really do have a word for that).

I will.

I called into the Tesla showroom in Santa Monica last week, as we had followed the new Tesla Model S on the road and I must say we were impressed. There are 4 models and they range from the 40 kWh base model at $59k to the 85 kWh Performance model at $79k - both prices before extras. The basic model has a range of 160 miles and the 85 kWh models have a range of 300 miles.

I did sit in the showroom model, but they would only give test drives "as part of the purchase process". The bare chassis certainly looked impressive, with what looked suspiciously like Chapman struts at the rear, though the salesman assured me that Lotus had had "no input" into the Model S.

If anybody is interested I do have a brochure which I can scan and onforward, but they intend to start selling it in the UK later this year, though apparently sales have been somewhat disappointing in the USA since it was launched in August 2012.

It is very expensive, but wonder how they are managing to get more than double or even triple the range of a Nissan Leaf? - the S model is larger too.

If they can get that type of range at a realistic price it would make all electric much more viable.

The Tesla batteries are lithium-ion and it has regenerative braking, I don't know much about the Leaf as it does not appeal. Charging can be done at home using either the normal American 110 volts, or alternatively it is possible to have a 240 volt line installed, which much reduces charging times.

Tesla are installing charging stations along major trunk roads and they will be able to 'supercharge' the cars by installing 150 miles of range (in the 85 kWh models) in 30-minutes! shocked2

The batteries are warranted for 8-years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, and a set of new batteries can be purchased for $10/12k when you buy the car.

It's a full 5-seater and it can have 2-child seats installed facing backwards, the touchscreen inside for the driver is 17" - as you might have gathered I was impressed (the 85 kWh model does 0-60 mph is 4.4 secs).

In California it is possible to get a Government subsidy of $10k when you buy one and if I lived there I would certainly consider one. Here I don't need such a large car and thus, I'm not in the market for one...
