The risk resides with the manufacturer for 8 years though, which is more than most people will keep a car for anyway. It's just preying on people's fears rather than being any kind of semblance of good value. Most cars of a similar price point either include servicing or it can be added for a modest fee, how are people going to take to a new technology when they're being asked to 'lease' something as if it's not proven? Deceit, IMO, like being pushed an extended warranty after buying a dishwasher.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see. Maybe I will be driving a Plus 4e in the future.
One thing is for certain, our children, grand children, great grandchildren etc can't continue with internal combustion engines ad infinitum.
By the way - what happened to hydrogen fueled cars?

The Renault idea is terrible. Why should you lease something that should be included in a steep purchase price?
....because it's transferring the part of the car which causes most anxiety to would be customers from the capital cost of the vehicle to being part of the running costs. Whatever the truth of battery life, the experiences most of us have had with the batteries of mobile phones and laptops do not fill us with confidence as regards the life of the battery pack of an electric car. With Renault's approach, this risk resides with the manufacturer and not the consumer. If you buy a replacement battery with a new Tesla at the stated $10/12k, for every year or 12,000 miles that it does beyond the warranty period, they refund $1k to you which seems neat. The only fly in the ointment for me is that I've never kept a car more than a few years, so this wouldn't really help me much.  P.S. They have one of Tesla's original coils at the Griffith Observatory (it's the sixth photo down). The Observatory is well worth a visit and it's free!

Then the resale value of the car will lie similar to a Fork-Lift truck, Nil value if the batteries are not deemed to be good or replaced recently !!!! The value in any passed Electric vehicle is in the quality of its Batteries. Fork-Lifts....Hand Trucks....Milk-Floats....etc..etc

Honda are still working on it. The end goal is to have a hydrogen station in your garage and to provide energy for your whole home.
Electricity driving individual motors in wheel hubs is what excites me, personally.

This bothers me.
Put too much water vapour in the air (up high it's called clouds) and the greenhouse effect would be pretty significant...
