As a matter of curiosity what do all of you who do your own servicing do with the old oil and batteries? We all know you can't just pour it down the stormwater drain in the street sick2 or leave it in front of your next door neighbour's nono

swmbo ran a motorcycle dealership for 30 years and strongly believes oil and batteries should not be sold in supermarkets but she always accepted old oil or batteries if someone asked us to dispose of it. Cost the dealership nothing and kept the polluting stuff in the right place.

Our local recycling centre has facilities to accept waste oil and batteries free of charge.

I also use the local recycling centre for oil & batteries, and other electrical goods. I don't go with everything because of the high council tax charges, so what can go in the various bins does so, even if it takes a week or two.
Our recycling centre is staffed by jobsworths. You know the type....Oi! you can't park there/ you can't put that in there, etc etc etc.
BUT, when I send swmbo they turn on the charm and offer to help empty the car.
So guess what..............

Used to get 50p from the local scrap dealer for a dead battery, but they won't take them any more because of the acid (it was a very long time ago!). Now I take them and old oil, paint thinners etc to the local council tip (sorry, re-cycling centre) where they dispose of them free of charge.

A friend of mine took a number of old batteries to our local scrap dealer a few months ago. I can't remember the exact price he got, but it was a lot more than 50p! Perhaps you should try another dealer.
