Indeed, I'm in oil and gas.
Perhaps another thread is needed for countries visited. I'm at 62 (I keep a list) and my criertia is that I must have spent a night. I'm currently starting the application progress for PR in Aus and have to list every trip in the last ten years...ouch.
An SPM 30 miles off Nigeria is close enough for my liking!

Too close for mine. We had 'pirates' on board twice over a couple of years, both times climbing up through the hawse pipe. Local 'security' i.e. military, totally useless - one guy deciding he was going to shoot the pirates (in the dark) from just in front of the accommodation block - 60m? - while some of our crew are running for'ard along the main deck to rescue their pal on the fo'c'sle. I'd be labelled racist if I wrote exactly what I thought of the idiot...  Not the only time we were boarded by 'unofficial' visitors...

I have heard many similar stories.
Nothing other than treats over "lack of payments" when I was there. Guess I was lucky.

Hehe, Yes, well the 'officials'  were right robbin' barstewards too...  Used to be quite a game to keep the handouts  to a minimum, after all, its not bribery, it's "The African Way"  Our worst case of piracy  was in the Malacca Straits, but I'll save that for another day...

Our worst case of piracy was in the Malacca Straits, but I'll save that for another day... We used to load Gurkhas in Singapore to help us when the ships went through there. That said Malacca is quite a nice place.

Western Australia Morgan badge with the white swan was not a manufacturing error - the original tooling existed and a small batch of badges were made. All had black swans, but 3 were ordered with white swans as 'specials' I know, as I organised the whole shooting match! Best wishes Melvyn Rutter
