When i receive such a call at the office (no land line at home) all of a sudden i seem to have a lot of animals making lots of noises in the back ground, i have to excuse myself several times to calm them down, like Lopesd i see how long i can entertain the caller, but i have to confess i haven't reached 40 mins yet notworthy......... grin2

It's maybe not their fault they've got a dodgy job though, is it? They're probably earning poor wages whilst being abused by the irate punters they're disturbing. I always try and treat the callers respectfully, whilst trying to cause their employers as much inconvenience as possible.

Heh.
I had one 'lady' tell me to "shut up, OK?" before she put the phone down on me.
And all I'd said was "no you aren't calling from my Service Provider"...

laugh2

We have so many rubbish calls L/L these days that we always let it go to answerphone and without exception they never leave a message - job done and no rudery or agitation.

The people we want to speak to know the way we operate and leave a message knowing we will call them back directly as we get free calls in our telecom bundle.

On the mobile front I don't respond to any calls other than Caller ID one's for the same reason.

Excellent Simon.
Answerphone Richard, yes it works - but the majority of calls we get are from daughter, so it pays for swmbo to answer the phone laugh2

Mobile - my answerphone is turned off. Can't use the phone in half our workspace (security) and don't want to spend money listening to calls left by other mobile providers trying to persuade me to change tariff / phone / company etc. - those are usually scam calls too...

As for caller ID, sadly our internal phone system blocks outgoing caller ID and (at least until we have a new system in the next month or two) I have no idea how to prevent that...

Cheers,

I can recommend the Truecall device which I have had for two years now. Very effective against all sorts of PPI, Injury claims, PC repairs calls. It links to a server in London which allows you to check the calls and the numbers. You can Zap them and they get a very nice message informing them to go away.
Its easy to google to number and see who they are. The ICO website allows you to record these numbers, so that they can take action if there is a number of complaints.

Neil

I should have added, I have no connection with the company just a very satisfied customer.

Incredibly we don't seem to get any fraud calls in Italy. I guess it might be a language thing.

A recent new law allows us to register our phone number in the list of those who object to receiving telemarketing calls etc. There are penalties for those organisations who don't comply and, if a call is recieved, it is only necessary to say that you are in the list of objectors and they are bound to remove your number from their calling list.

Until the Mafia gets control, then you will accept calls whether you like it or not hide

I looked at those Neil, but with the way swmbo takes calls I'd have had to rewire the internal phone lines at home...
And, trying to teach her how to use the information provided would be nigh on impossible.

Peter, we have the same - the Telephone Preference Service (also the Fax -ditto- and Mail -ditto- ). However, they are only of use against UK companies and relate to marketing or sales calls...

Many of the calls we now get originate outside of the UK.
