A month before he died, my grandad covered his back in butter. He went downhill pretty quickly after that.

Boom tish!

Not a lot one can say to all the comments, other than thanks for the support and encouragement. Its not the thought of having cancer but the agony of not knowing and waiting for all the necessary tests etc. One that is done then, the action plan can be put into place and the battle will commence.

I am sorry to hear about your best mate Graham. It makes us realise that we are not immortal.

I can take inspiration from my late father, who had cancer diagnosed when 59 and survived to 76. He smoked 40 Players Navy Cut for most of his life. Unfortunately it was bowel cancer that was his final undoing, but 25 years on, treatment has advance beyond recognition.

I am not afraid of death, just the thought of meeting the ex mother-in-law, frightens me beyond belief. rofl rofl

I can just see Tim Vine saying that line! smile

Good news J!

Andy, thanks. Dave was diagnosed late Nov / early Dec with lymphoma. Had been on chemo and radio therapy since January. It wasn't until last weekend that he suddenly went downhill (well, he wouldn't agree, he'd say he did that the year before when he slipped on some icy steps exiting his local and smashed the heck out of his ankle that took a 7 hour operation (under local anasthetic) to put back together - but that was his humour!). He was rushed into Yeovil hospital last weekend, where the doctors discovered he was riddled cancer - potentially the lymphoma was the later stages of the disease, we don't know at present. I feel sorriest for his father, who in discussion with the doctors had to decide to withdraw medical support, excluding the morphine for pain relief, on Friday morning. He had been on a "No resuscitation" marker since the first day or so at Yeovil. My Sister was somewhat different and I don't feel like typing that out just now.

Anyway, I didn't realise yours had been ongoing for so long. I think, if one is unsure, it's best to ask for a second opinion (even though that upsets the medical profession - or a chunk of it). There have been enough TV adverts of late (certainly the last year or so) to encourage people not to hide problems.

Thanks all, and yes, bringing it out into the open certainly helps.

Sorry to read about your chum Graham. I've been through that a couple of times and it's hollowing....

Last week I went to see my friend Robin who died six years ago and had a 'chat' and left flowers. I miss him every day.

Tough stuff, despite the brave smiles.

Neither did I grin2

I'm a huge opponent of 'what if's and 'if only's as my answer is always "well we didn't" and we can't go back in time smile

Harrowing story of your friends father frown here's hoping they get rarer and rarer.

Cheers
