Funny you started this thread as I wanted exactly the same information for my 1.6 Zetec in my 2011 4/4.
I wrote to the Ford Customer Service in Australia and included a photo of my engine that showed the details on the label affixed to the rocker cover. I was after some basic details of the engine; a suitable workshop manual and a referral to a facility that could advise on and fit performance up grades (throttle bodies, cam, exhaust and ECU mapping etc) Ford rang me some days later to advise that they would NOT provide ANY information and could not guarantee there service agents would provide it either.
Feeling somewhat aggrieved, I asked to speak to the manager who confirmed in no uncertain terms that NO information would be provided. As I had approached them in writing I requested written confirmation that they would not respond to any of my questions or provide any assistance – a request they aggressively rejected! To round out this brilliant piece of customer liaison – the manager wished me “good luck finding out about your Ford engine and gearbox” and hung up!

I'm not really surprised you got an unhelpful response but they could have been more polite about it. Morgan 4/4 uses the Ford sigma 1595cc i4 engine that has max power of 82 kw (110 bhp) @ 6000 rpm There seem to be several versions used by Ford with various outputs, just how similar they are I do not know. One way or the other the engine seems to have a lot of potential for tuning. Wikipedia has a good entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Sigma_engine The same engine is also used in the Ford Fiesta and a version is used In the Caterham in various states of tune (120,125 or 150 bhp). A search in Google will reveal a lot of specialists in enhancements for this engine.

I suspect if the engine is not common in Australia you may have problems finding an engine tuner. I don't know if Caterhams are popular down under, as Peter said, the latest ones use the Sigma in various states of tune and you may find some ideas there.
A shame that Ford should be so off about helping you. I suspect they'd be the same over here as well. But, it is their engine and if your car is still under warranty I believe it is them that warranty the engine, not Morgan.
Good Luck!

Thanks Peter & Jay for your response. The letter to Ford was not mission critical. I had already done some research of my own but thought an official approach to Ford might be worthwhile.
I was essentially after an appropriate manual which I believe to be a Focus (for the motor, not sure on the gearbox) as well as some direction on proper performance enhancements in an effort to avoid the hot rod voodoo that seems to abound.
I did not really expect too much as some in the Morgan community here have told me Ford won’t touch their cars but I was surprised by their response. The engines fitted to our cars are “crate” motors that only carry a 2 year Ford warranty as distinct from a new Ford Focus which carries 5 year/60,000 Ford cover on the power train.
Probably explains why you only get a two year warranty on a new Morgan.

I had occasion recently to go to our local Ford agents in Christchurch, New Zealand for an engine oil filter for my 2011 +4 and of course none in stock and they couldn't suggest any alternative! I found a similar one tho at Repco who were a lot more helpful than Ford. It seems we are on our own when it comes to a Ford engine.
I count my self very fortunate that the car hasn't missed a beat in its first 4500k. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it.
After a very hot trip Christchurch to Queenstown (500K) tho I think I need to fit air ventilation in my foot wells as heat from the engine around my bare legs was a bit much. Any ideas?

A lot of heat comes off the exhaust manifold. You could consider an exhaust wrap which may help. As for getting cool air down into the footwell, not easy if the outside temperature is hot apart from fitting aircon.

Alternatively, you might be able to fit bonnet extenders (can't think of the correct) name which allow you to fasten bonnets down into place, but with approx an inch of air gap at the rear. That lets quite a lot of hot air out of the engine bay, to the outside of the cockpit area. Techniques might be a supplier. They're usually found on +8s as the footwells can get very hot in UK summer...

It can get hot in the foot well when I am driving in an Australian summer but I have found that if you run the fan (heater off obviously) and make sure the vents pointed to the feet are fully open with the vents directed to the cockpit fully closed it is much more comfortable. ps, I do like Graham's idea of the bonnet adjustment

Thanks OZ, I will try that. I didn't know I had vents near the feet until I put my head down there yesterday!
Graham I had a look at my bonnet fixing and it doesn't look simple to make it secure after spacing it out. I wondered if I could divert the air being sucked in to come in the sides of the air intake rather than in the front.
Thanks for the feed back guys.

It was a product that John, at Phoenix Design, produced for a while. I notice he doesn't list them anymore. Unfortunately Google is about as much help as a plate of chocolate to a diabetic dieter... In other words I haven't found anyone else making these Extenders... Others may know differently...
