Cancer extended into the bowel wall but did not penetrate. There was adhesion to the abdominal wall internally but this was inflammation and not cancer. This tissue was however removed (the complication that extended my op) as a precaution anyway but cancer had not spread into it.

Dukes stage B - T stage T3 (these confuse me a tad)

No chemotherapy or further treatment required at present!

6 monthly check ups, annual CT scans and Bi-annual Colonsocopy for next 5 years at least to check for re-occurrence.

BUT this doesn't mean I will not have any re-occurrence just that it is much less likely!

What does it mean? Well my nephew who is a very smart Doctor working in research texted me "Congratulations! you LUCKY LUCKY man"

I'm not 'out of the firing line' by any stretch of the imagination; but I have 'hopped over the wall'. Hopefully I can keep running before one of the squad pops his head over the wall and starts shooting laugh2

Thanks to God, the incredible medical team who looked after me and my wonderful family and friends (both real and virtual smile ) you really did make a HUGE difference

cheers and grouphug and love to you all

NGUNS!!

Andy,

I was aware of this thread very late so did not contribute to the well- wishing.
However, I am moved by your exciting news to wish you the heartiest of congratulations.
One can only imagine what it must be like to go through an experience such as this.
I' ll sink a "coldly" for you tonight!.......to a long and happy life.

Cheers, Neil.

Guys thank you all so much thumbs

I am truly blessed. I'm sure that life still has a few more hurdles for me to overcome but I feel strong and hope to be able to 'rise to the occasion' when they are placed before me. Of course it has been an emotional journey but one where I think I am stronger for the experience.

What I do hope and pray is that this experience can help others to hopefully anticipate and seek help early at any symptoms and give hope to overcome if and when faced with a similar situation.

I was referred to the cancer research website by my nephew, and whilst I tried to avoid utilising Dr Google as much as possible this one was very effective and informative without being too sensational; as was www.bowelcancer.tv headed up by Lyn Faulds-wood of watchdog fame who went through the same journey.

Cancer is not pleasant, but it's not the killer it once was. Thanks to the huge advances in medical science the early detection in particular and the treatment is so much more effective these days, and every case is individual.

Be healthy, be lucky and be happy!

cheers grouphug

Cheers
