As has been said, buy on condition rather than mileage. Add to that the other caveat: history, history, history! I don't care if it is low or high miles, a service record is imperative. Aeros, because of the construction method, engine size and power can shake themselves apart if they haven't been maintained correctly. Of course this is an exaggeration on my part; however, the reason the factory states the service intervals they do is far less to do with the mechanical parts and far more to do with ensuring each nut and bolt on the vehicle has been tightened.

There isn't a lot to go wrong with these cars and they are bullet proof for the most part; however, there will be (can be) a myriad of niggles if the car hasn't been fettled by the first owner or maintained correctly by any of the owners.

Whilst I like the idea of a well maintained, low miles car, you often find low miles means 'I didn't service it because it only did 200 miles that year' and that simply isn't attractive to me. My Aero gets serviced annually (and if required in between) whether it does 10 miles or 10,000.

Well it is an early 2008 car that was owned by the factory (1st owner) for the first few years where it was sent to ZF to use for setting gearbox parameters. It was then sent back the factory where it was completely overhauled including trim I believe, new wheels and tyres fitted (Aero Supersport wheels in black) and sold in 2011 as 'as new' condition to the lucky owner ..... whereupon I ( ) then added a Supersport twin side exit exhaust with the most wonderful sound! Oh and it is an auto.

So, exceptional car? Yes, owned by me Perfect history? Pretty well but depends on your definition of 'perfect'? Was sent back to the factory for service and MOT.

Bear in mind all S4's I've seen have been in the £60's

TBH it doesn't sound like its for you? I already have one TMer who is interested who hopes to be in a position to deal in May and failing that I'm pretty sure it will move at the price. Good luck either way

Does sound an interesting car, but I'm a manual gearbox man, so probably saved just saved myself a few £k and a kicking from SWMBO . Sounds like you will sell car easily

I would seriously advise you test drive an Auto before you purchase, you might just be converted.....converted in the right direction, for these cars. IMHO, although not an option you would have going for the S3, but a lovely car anyway one thinks

My personal opinion is manual for a trad and the new plus 8 and auto for the bigger more GT Aero derivatives whenever possible. The Auto box really is very very good!

Saying that, I loved my manual S2 Aero and that was a weapon on the track as well as being a mile munching GT

Sorry Mack - not aimed at you at all, had no idea you had done that or the mileage on your car. Just a reference to the charity drive some of the forum are doing and the importance of being prepared as they obviously are!

The only thing I would say in defence of the low miler route is that they've spent less time on our horrid salt covered roads and less exposure to our manky damp climate or gravel and pot-holed laden roads.

Yours is a good example of both low mileage and stunning condition; however, you do suffer from car-OCD, so it is perhaps one of the exceptions, not the rule.
