My previous Morgan (1981 4/4) had no shimmy at any speed, except on a very bumpy stretch of road at one specific location where it felt like the whole car was going to fall apart. I think this was the St Malvern's dance. Apart from this particular road, there were shimmy problems neither on motorways in Germany nor on country roads in Scotland.

Perhaps that is it... It occurs so irregularly...

Ok, I pulled the front right wheel and everything looked in order. There was no forward or backward play in the damper blade. A good sign. I did put a little oil on it. It drove fine this weekend. I did not get to the left wheel. Too many "honey do" items to chase. Thanks for everyone's input.
