Also I understand that the Aero suspension system is rather complex and costly. A clever redesign with the use of stock components from another manufacturer would probably save here too.
Problem with that is the cost of testing and legislation to achieve type approval Unless you're building thousands of cars (maybe tens of thousands) it would be more than the cost of the existing Aero chassis. It all costs big money which is why we pay so much for the rarity and individuality of our Morgans. To keep it in perspective, my Bentley GTC Speed (2010 model) didn't cost a hell of a lot more than my Plus 8. The Bentley has over 30 ECU's (courtesy of an article forwarded by Aeroman) incredible fit and finish, every gadget and gizmo you can think of air suspension and a W12 600bhp twin turbo engine. All backed by a Bentley warranty. I still bought the Plus 8 as well, but there becomes a point..... Conjecture of course (development costs) but based on other conversations regarding other items/cars with people who know.
Cheers

Of course you are quite correct. The cost of homologation, even with the special exemptions for low volume producers, is a major consideration. It would save a lot of money if any new model was homologated as a variant of an existing car. I suspect, but obviously do not know, that even the new Plus 8 has been homologated as a body variant of the Aero.
Can't recall who, it may have been CM, talked about further utilising existing components to achieve economies of volume production and purchasing.
I don't really see that a differentiated variant with a smaller and lighter engine and drive train would detract from the prestige of the thundering V8s.
I think 1560's point is that Morgan could do well with a model that sits between the trads and the Aero range. If they were to decide on such a model it still be priced above the cost of a trad but attract people who perhaps feel uncomfortable with V8 power and the ongoing costs of ownership.
PS. It's not just about money. There are many people who could allow themselves an Aero but for various reasons would prefer something less but with the same Morgan style and all that that entails.

My point was that if you adapt the Aero chassis as you mention it would be considered a new car I believe and attract new development/testing costs as to make it commercially unviable. (have I made that word up??) I also am led to understand that yes the Plus 8 is 'approved' due to the Aero underpinnings. And lastly as to "it's not always about the cost" of course I understand, that's why the Plus 8 appeared I agree an 'Aero 6' (or whatever) would appeal to many (inc 1560) but am not sure it would be such a saving in manufacture. I believe that's what was anticaipted with the Plus 8. Taxation is another issue!

How are you getting on with the GTC? I still kind of regret selling mine... I adore it! The antithesis of a Morgan in so many ways. Great bedfellows therefore (moreso with a trad thus my Plus 8 purchase and the forthcoming sale of my Aero 8 S4). I still think the lower stance of the Speed combined with the darker wheels and grille (and the silver of mine that oppresses or tones down some of the chrome bling) makes it look even better.

Boshers, I did not realise you still had your S4, is it the White one ?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
