One of my brake lights is out - but the bulb seems to be stuck into the holder, I'd be grateful of any tips to free it.
I am always a bit wary of bulbs, since a pal of mine nearly cut his fingers off changing an old bulb in his house

You may have to wrap it in a cloth, hold tight, push in and rotate anticlockwise. If this breaks it then at least you save your fingers. Then grab the base with pliers and do the same (push in and rotate a/c).

Assuming you've got absolutely no wiggle on it (including a bit of in and out movement) you may have to resort to brute force. I had to wrap a duster around a bulb once and break the glass so I could then get a pair of long nosed pliers to the bulb base. It might be worth a bit of WD40 before resorting to actual physical violence though. Eta nputtnick beat me to it!

cheers chaps, there absolutely no wiggle in it, I have left it with a bit of wd40 soaking in and have found my thickest ski glove. if that doesnt work I'll wrap the bulb in duck tape in case of breakage - should give me a bit more protection
surgeons fingers and all that....

theres funny - must be a loose connection in bulb holder - having managed to wobble the bulb a mm or 2, my little lad came to help. So I had him press the brake pedal and they are both working.
two people today told me the light was out, and tbh the filaments look OK.

I imagine you'll still want to get that bulb out.... Working but stuck would irritate me!
I wouldn't break the bulb with ski gloves - I would wrap it and then break with pliers or something. Glass could get through the gloves when pressing and gripping.

You are right - I'll have another crack tomorrow, I was using the gloves for grip - they have nice thick leather fingers, with some grippy stuff on.
I need to get new bulb, so once I have that Ill have another go - maybe the penetrating spray will have done some business overnight

Yes, it should loosen (positive thinking!). I guess moisture has got in there and it's oxidised solidly on.
Do go carefully with your ski glove plan. Well pressed in broken glass is really not recommended!

in the past I have used Plus Gas for this type of problem, I think Halfords still stock it

I wouldn't risk a pair of decent ski gloves on a 35p bulb!
