Darmont Special 3 Wheeler
A 1923 Darmont Special 3W spotted last week-end. Some castings with the Morgan name moulded in. ;-)

Tasty but the engine seems small.

Can someone on TM identify that engine? It seems to have 2 x spark-plugs per cylinder, but with only one on each cylinder connected! Bud

Darmonts were made under Morgan Licence in France - so its probably a French engine - I cannot recognise it as English. It was quite common to have two plugs per cylinder - just for ease of change over in case of failure! spark plugs were no where near as reliable in those days!! hope this helps!!

John, I suppose the engine looks a bit small because it's a sidevalve, without the cylinder height of an OHV. Gerry.

Thanks for the engine identification. Darmont has equipped his 3 Wheelers with Darmont engines which were copies of the water cooled ot air cooled JAP (normal model) or Blackburne engines (Special model). Perhaps also as this car may show some Blumfield engines as they were also fitted to Morgans I understand.

Quite possible the car has had the engine changed anyway.
I don't think it's meant to be a two spark plug per cylinder engine, just that the unconnected one is filling a hole! Got a feeling that the plug inserts are removable, and you could extricate the valves without removing the head.
