Talk Morgan Forums Community Vehicle Talk (non-Morgan) Alternative to a Morgan?

Nothing can replace a Morgan but having had to sadly give mine up due to falling apart (me not it) what on earth can replace it?
Has to be a comfortable ride with auto and small enough for a single garage. It can't be too low so Z4, Boxter, TT and SLK are all out. Any suggestions folks? That should leave me open to a few digs! Cheers, Dave

Tough call.....the very four cars I've been looking at over the past couple of weeks!

So......an Elise is obviously out then! Possibly a Golf GTi or like Dave W's TDi? Easy to get into, sporty and should fit a single garage. Or are you still wanting a convertible?

What about a Jag?
Should be able to pick up an XJ convertible?
Go classic for an XJS 4.0 celebration instead? Would be a solid but price wise at the moment.
If you want to be bling then a Ferrari Mondial cab is still looking like a good purchase for the right one (see vipers car on here - looks lovely)
Other more sensible option might be a BMW 1 series convertible - they seem to drive well and you have plenty of engine options.

I'll give you an off beat one. A Smart Fourtwo Brabus Convertible

Just as 'zany', you can get the roof down (on the move at up to 80mph faster than this you can put it down but not back up), can be hustled along quite well (surprisingly well to almost every other road user I've had an indicated 115mph on a private road) performs well as standard (bhp/ton on a par with a Mini Cooper) can be tuned for an extra 20% very easily, cheap to run (tax and insurance and mpg). Brabus also well equipped with stitched leather, touchscreen sat nav, Bluetooth, heated seats etc.

Best of all it's so easy to get in and out of and you get a good view out, due to the high seatin position, and it still puts a smile on your face, it really does. Oh and EVERY space is a parking space due to the size and plastic doors no parking dings given or taken

Bad points are the gearbox takes a bit of getting used to but once you have, it's absolutely one and you don't notice it (Brabus has the paddles and whilst good thy are very slow but you soon work with it and forget it's cumbersome). Can be a bit crashy over potholes.

Hi Jay and Pete. You've both hit on one idea I have; the Golf auto convertible is what keeps coming to the fore. I think you are right about the Elise Jay!
Interesting that you are looking at the same 4. They are the 'sensible modern' sports choices and very difficult to separate. If I was nimble enough,I would probably go for the latest Z4 although a new SLK is tempting too. Ah choices!

Hi Boshly, I go for the Brabus in a flash. I think it's a brilliant idea but my wife wants nothing too small (fear of lorries on motorways)and we will be using it a lot Sadly Mr Tony's Jag and Ferrari is out too but tempted very recently! Whilst 'remaining neutral' I know which way I will be 'steered' by a certain influence.
So can we come up with a 'nearly Golf convertible'?? Cheers
