Greetings. I am new to TalkMorgan and live in Northern California. I have been a Morgan enthusiast and have owned several Morgans over many years and have recently sold my beloved '71 Plus 8 to acquire an '05 Series II Aero 8. I am excited about the performance and styling of the Aero 8 and feel it is, though very much a special day car, more usable I would be interested to hear from anyone else who might have gone from owning a traditional Morgan to owning an Aero 8. I am also interested to hear of others' ownership experiences regarding Series II Aero 8s, particularly owners in the U.S, regarding service and maintenance. Further, I am interested to hear about what are considered to be on the list of "factory updates" for the sII Aero 8 and whether any owners have found any particular problem areas to watch. I am also interested to learn about what upgrades or bulb improvements are available for the headlights. Additionally, has anyone found a product or a process for maintaining the exposed aluminum sills in the interior? Thank you, I look forward to your reply. Ira Wolk

Won't be able to answer all your questions but I've had 3 plus 8's before my Aero S1 and to me although vastly different to a trad Morgan it felt like a plus 8 on steroids. Same kind of feel and view over the bonnet but far far more exillerating to drive and extremely surprising. Most of all compliant.

Definite upgrades have got to be short shift and sports exhaust. Job done....a perfect sports car.

Congratualtions.

Welcome IRA, I also won't be able to answer all your questions, but a sport exhaust upgrade is a MUST, so that it could bring out the best from a V8 love

re Bulb improvements, one easy upgrade is to go for the after market xenon kits. Do a search and you should find plenty of companies which does xenon kit upgrade.

However, I am more interested in your driving impressions compare to your previous plus8 smile

Thanks for your response. The Aero has side exhausts. I'll inquire regarding Xenon bulb replacement kits. Any particular recommendations? What is a short shift?

Thank you.

The Aero's std side pipes sounded nice but lacked bass, a couple of us have changed our side exhaust to a sport one which sounded great with plenty of woofling bass, here's a pic of the exhaust, the sport ones are halve the size and halve the weight which represent a not inconsiderable 12-13kg weight savings

Here's also a link to short shift thread...

Regarding recommendations on xenons, I guess you'll be able to find a reputable supplier in your area...

I had Xenons put on my Series II at the factory, so they will be able to recommend/suggest who the manufacturer is I'm sure.

Makes a big difference to lighting the way when driving briskly at night grin2

Hi Ira and welcome to TM. Good to hear you are from Northern California, as we are trying to organise a trip from the Mexico border to Vancouver in 2010 (2009 will be too busy with the Centenary celebrations) and it looks as though there should be 2, if not 3-Aero's on that trip. flag

Like Viper, I had several Plus 8's and had an order in for another one, when I was given the chance of changing the order to an Aero 8, which I duly did. I have really enjoyed the Aero driving experience, and have progressed through the various Series, some of the merits of which have been posted by mr_tony. Most of the comments that he makes about the Series III, apply equally well to the Series II.

I think that there was much more detailed work that needed to be carried out on the Series I imho (apologies guys laugh ) , much of which was rectified on the Series II. However, there are still a number of bugbears on the Aero's a couple of which have been mentioned by the guys above. Like Kin, I have fitted a similar sports exhaust and this has had the effect of making the engine more eager to rev; whilst having the by-product of improving the sound immensely. innocent

The next thing to be improved are the lights, Andy had his done by the 'works', but in last month's Miscellany - Quicksilver Automotive Technology also advertised HID Xenon Headlamp Conversions - For all Morgan's 1959 - 2007. Factory Approved, from all good Morgaan Specialists. Tel No: 0844 - 800 4338. I have no experience of their product, but it does give you a chance to at least compare prices. grin2

Next the petrol-filler is a real pain, it blows back constantly and does not allow you to 'brim' the tank effectively. It is well-worth changing to an Aero filler, as shown on Steve Simmond's website. As it says on the description "the throat of the filler is almost twice the size of the standard, therefore allowing for venting so it helps with the filling." (you may also find some other stuff on this site that appeals to you.) cheers

Lastly, the issue of the exposed aluminium. I have not really found a solution to this, I have seen several cars where the owner's have had it covered in carpet. Personally, I like the exposed aluminium, but feel that it should have been lightly polished at the works and then sealed. I have not done this with my car (as yet), but feel that the current finish is a bit too kit-car for me. Maybe some other Aero owners have a view on this. confused2

Once you get your car Ira, please do post some photos of it and don't forget to put in for membership of one of the most exclusive Aero Clubs. wine

Ira,

I forgot to mention the aluminium gearknob (that MMC fit on the current Aero America) and the MMC rear diffuser, that fills the unfinished gap at the rear of side-piped Aero's. Photos of both items follow:

As you can see this Aero owner has had the diffuser sprayed the same colour as the body of his car. Enjoy your Aero Ira. woohoo

Cheers

Thanks Ira, I do look forward to seeing your gallery(s) when we visit as I have an interest in contemporary art, but collect mainly African artists. grin2
