The discs on mine are fine after 14000 miles, some corrosion to the outer edge but thats all. Winter use when there is salt on the roads may well corrode the discs faster.

The discs on my 2011 plus 4 had a slight warp at 8,000 miles.Kick back at low speeds ,
This was deemed to be within tolerance on my 11500 mile service whilst under warranty.

I've droned on at length about how on my Morgan, one face out of four is suffering a covering of light rust. A lot depends on how much use and what type of use. If you're light on the brakes they will never clean completely. I do try to give the Roadster brakes a good work out occasionally, so a few heavy applications keep the discs good in summer. Mine are not originals anyway, because owner 1 went totally greenstuff on the front, but the old discs came with the car and after less than 5000 miles had the imprint of the pads in rust on all four faces.

I have just had my MX5 front pads and discs replaced after 15 years of use. One face was slightly rusty and it turned out to be a lazy piston. Looks like new now and cost about £200 to have done.

Rust never sleeps. Drive any car on salty winter roads and put it away for a few months and see what happens to the rotors. To avoid the problem one would need stainless brakes .

Thanks for all the advice & tips - sadly, I can't do any brake-bashing as the car is 150 miles away at RPM. In fairness, I should perhaps give a bit of background: the 'remedial work' is being done under warranty, fortunately, as there's 3 issues: Corroded windscreen pillars, non-working speedo & washer pump. The brake issue came up up as a result of the speedo problem, the sender on the OSF wheel had rotted away...

The lesson I have learned is : outdoor Carcoons are A WASTE OF MONEY! Won't be using THAT again! swear

BTW the cost of the brake rebuild is £350 for pads, discs, springs & labour @£70 per hour, inc. VAT. I'll live with it.. spend

I have not had problems with my +4 but I have with my camper van. I live by the sea in Cornwall, so have salt in the air and the van is out all the time. It is on its third set of front discs. The backs do not suffer as they are protected by the bodywork. I now use wheel covers that you see on caravans. It protects both wheel and tyre and my discs are like new. They were about £15 each on ebay, and are secured to the wheel by elastic over the back of the wheel.

Mintex, contact Williams Morgan.
I've got their "Roadsport" pads, not for road use (Doh!)
More feel, more progressive but squeak a bit when cold.

Sand the glaze off and put the pads back in, and brake harder! Glazing is usually caused by under-use. Or get softer pads, not racing ones.
