It would appear that Stratstone Morgan Edinburgh have come and gone in a matter of months and it looks as if some of their stock is now on RPM's website. The photos being used weren't taken in the Perth showroom.

Stratstone Edinburgh along with their Perth Dealership have been bought by Aberdeens' John Clark Motor Group. John Clark are probably not interested in the Morgan Marque, they bought it for the Jaguar and Land Rover Dealerships

Morgan will never get the stability that they have with dedicated marque specialists from the likes of Stratstone.

I thought RPM stock had increased by large numbers overnight the last time I looked. That explains the reason.

Had a massive argument with John Clark specialist Car Volkswagen in Aberdeen last week.

Some snotty accountant after I said I did not want gap insurance on my nieces VW UP! told me I would have to fill in a questionnaire then sign a waver if I wanted to try that.

He was doing a Headmaster to little child act on me.

He was more than displeased when I told him to F..k off and just do the debt card transaction and I would not be signing any waver!

That's the last car I buy from Specialist Cars.

Had my 4/4 serviced at Stratstones today. It was booked in before the changeover. Seems to have been done very well and they were very attentive. The whole ambience has changed since John Clark took over. A friendly welcome from the lady at the desk in the showroom and immediately introduced to the sales and service staff and manager. This contrasts to 2 previous visits when no one even bothered with me - and I was looking for a car at the time! I was told their 'agency' is suspended pending clarification but that their Morgan stock is being moved to one of John's other garages near Craiglockhart (also Edinburgh). They do still have their qualified Morgan mechanic there though and their Morgan salesman is a real enthusiast. I don't know if John Clark will keep the Morgan franchise but he does know sufficient about them having had them shoved down his throat by me from the early 1960's!

The trouble is, is that MMC are trying to play in the big boys arena and all the glitter that goes with it. One can only wait and see if their strategy pays off, but I will keep my business with the traditional Morgan dealer and hope that they keep going.

Well there are always different opinions. I'm going to go a bit left field, and maybe upset a few people, but in my opinion the standards of service received from most of the dealers I've dealt with in the UK has left much to be desired.

Having visited 6 European dealerships during our recent European sojourn I can honestly say we are hard done by here in this country. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only dealership in the UK who have impressed me have been RPM. I've never actually dealt with them but the set up seems ideal, and I have heard enough good things about them. I am not in anyway denigrating the enthusiasm of most uk dealerships but I'm not enamoured with the way they do business.

To give an example, before the Nordkapp trip I spoke to one dealer, told him I was selling my Aero 8 on my return as I'd agreed to buy the Plus 8. Heard nothing on my return so called about 4 weeks after. When I introduced myself he responded "of course I remember you, I have your business card here stapled in my diary" (yet no call?). I then discuss my Aero 8 again to which he says he'll need to go and check on the prices (he's a Morgan main dealer??). I then tell him what I want, and he says "oh it'll sell very quickly at that price, but I'll do a bit if research and get back to you" (not sure what research he needs to do?).

Two weeks later and I've heard nothing. Not even a 'by your leave'. Now maybe you might say that he needs no more stock, or isn't willing to part with a load of much needed cashflow? You may be right. But we were talking about sale or return!! no outlay, minimal risk and more exposure? And to make matters worse, he has a series 3 for sale at a gnats whisker more than my series 4 would go up for with less mileage, and a few choice extras (auto, twin side exits and Supersport wheels).

Now who will please explain the commercial sense in that? If I were a Morgan dealer I'd sniff out who's selling what (how many times have I mentioned it on here???) and be calling daily to get my car (any car!!) on board.

Are Stratstones the answer? No idea really, maybe not. But the majority of current UK dealers need a good wake up call, and need to get commercially savvy pretty quick. My advice? Go and see your European counterparts!!

Rant over grin2

I never seem to be able to see any of RPM's stock on t'internet. Must be doing something wrong.
Other than that, having visited a couple of years ago when we were well entertained by Russell himslef on our way home from a LeJog run, I'd thoroughly recommend him as a dealer, with full facilities for looking after Morgans of all ages.
Some nice race cars up there too grin2
