Every so often someone asks about cleaning mohair and vinyl hoods. I posted the item below on another thread some months back and I thought it was time to report back.

In all I have found the products very easy to use and the protection seems to work well. I placed some cardboard sheets over the glass and paint to protect them from overspray, though the Protectant really seems quite harmless to paint. Any overspray I wiped off straight away as recommended. After a while when the product seemed dry I noticed a mist of tiny droplets still remained on the surface and I simply wiped over the mohair with my hands to distribute them into the surface of the weave. I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do but it seemed to work (then went and washed my hands).

I have now washed the car several times since applying the Protectant and there is no sign of any ingrained dirt or stains. Even after being caught in a really heavy rain storm the top seemed quite clean so the Protectant seems to have a water and dirt repellent effect.

The Cleaner will not remove tree gum but I have found that a few drops of tea tree oil will dissolve the gum and the tea tree oil is so light that it just washes off. It works on painted surfaces too though I suggest trying it on a "safe" place first just to be sure there is no damage. Naturally any protective coatings or wax would need to be re-applied to the area. In my case I had some spots of gum on the car and one on the hood before I applied the Protectant and I have not had any since so I can't say if it helps to stop the gum from sticking.
