Clarkson's humour is rooted in his roots, in South Yorkshire.
How he puts things across is quite common hereabouts.

We sometimes play the game 'who would you have at your ideal dinner party ?' - JC is on my list.

Oh dear, seems I may have touched a raw nerve among the TG fans among us. My comments were meant as an observation on how I find the show nowadays, in that it has become for me rather predictable. I am sure JC and crew are very nice chaps and my comments were not intended as an attack on them personally, rather an observation on the format of the show. Maybe I just don't get it anymore, the show that is. Apologies to anyone who has taken my views that wrong way, presenters included. hide

Adrian,

Down under we still find TG funny, I guess in 10 years when we catch up episodes it may wear a little thin. They tried to do an Australian version, but it fell flat because to be perfectly honest you can replicate a script but not the personalities and like them or not, they are what makes the show.

I wouldn't worry Adrian....TG and its presenters are a bit like Marmite! And JC has deliberately developed his public persona over the years and so needs people to react to him for his continued success. It's only show biz!

Fair point, I also should clarify my comments. I have made some strong comments before now.

I don't mean that I dislike the presenters. That fact that two of them are Morgan fans should make me like them a lot more. I guess my frustration is the change in format and content over the years. I remember the older stuff and it had teeth, these days it feels more like it has fluff instead.

If you are able to remember the article Hammond did on the Aero GT3 racer (which has now been removed from youtube) it was creative and contained good car content. I really liked that article and hold it as a great example of the program and Hammond.

As you say it has moved to light entertainment and maybe I am no longer the core audience. It has retained its 8.00pm Sunday slot and the franchises are making money and keeping people employed. I guess I should be applauding the success. Some of the lighter stuff does make me laugh.

I just wish the naughty element of the opinion and personal viewpoints were allowed to come out more. I liked the old one which seemed to have deeper teeth to bite with. You mention Yorkshire humour, I always remember that as being a bit more blunt !

When did they last test a car that was poor and they actually said so ? It could be done and made funny and constructive whilst actually flattening it.

When did they last look into the more unusual elements of car purchasing like profitability and servicing. Not in a What Car like manner but in a "really does it have to be this difficult?"

I stand corrected on some of my comments and apologise if they were too strong. I just get frustrated when I watch one episode and it looks like the last one again and again and I wish they could be sharper. VW used to call it surprise and delight. What you did not expect will bring you surprise and delight. Delight is good.

I also apologise to Pandy for making his thread messy. I do agree with his point.

I don't think you have to apologise. Everyone is entitled to a point of view.

Exactly. Life would be so dull if we all had the same opinions - IMHO...
I've met James May and Richard Hammond when they did the classic sports car vs modern souped up bling ICE'd Pug at Prescott.
Back then JM wasn't a Mog fan (he arrived in a 911) and took the mick out of the fit and finish of Morgans - Richard's in particular. I'm glad he's changed sides! As for JC, never met the man, but I reckon Andy's pretty much on the button there... smile
