I shall be going on the Saturday this year.
Parking is inclusive with the ticket on the grass, no way to avoid the traffic there is just so much. Food availability in range and price is good for this type of outdoor meeting. No need to dress up, I don't and you don't feel uncomfortable.

I've only been the once, so don't have much to offer. I think Neil is something of an expert on all things Goodwood, but I believe he's away on his hols.

Not much to say on avoiding jams or parking - we got their reasonably early and it wasn't too bad getting in or parking.

I'd definitely book seats in a grandstand - as I mentioned earlier it was raining for much of the day & the roof provided some respite, but we had a very good view of the track & the air displays from the stand.

It's worth dressing up, as most people do so, and it definitely contributes to the overall atmosphere. I didn't go crazy - tweed jacket, panama hat but some of the visitors really go to town. I might make a bit more of an effort next time.

There was a marquee with a sit down restaurant, but we couldn't face the queue, so had a glass of champers and watched the jive dancing & then went and found a sandwich.

The thing which most impressed me was that there really is something for everybody, even those who aren't total petrolheads. My wife enjoyed the day as much as I did, and the thought that has gone into every last little detail is extraordinary.

Aside from the cars, we were treated to a marvellous flying display by a Spitfire and a Mustang, whilst in the spirit of aviation display they had (amongst other interesting aircraft) the Swordfish from Yeovilton; it was a real thrill for me to inspect it up close and to talk to the pilot about it.

We'll be in the south of France during the revival, so we won't be going this year, but we'll definitely be back another time.

It's pretty much as Giles describes - and Friday is no different to the uninitiated than Saturday or Sunday.

Jams: Be early - plan to arrive by 8.00am latest. Avoid M27/A27 if possible. I use the A286 from Midhurst and don't normally have a problem (at 7.30am!)

Car Parks: As said they are free, just follow the signs. Car park entrances change as they manage the traffic flow. If you have a pre-1972 car (or one that looks like it is ) apply for the free pass to the pre-72 car park and just follow the signs to it. This is closest to the entrance.

Clothes: No need to be in period but better to get in the spirit. Just avoid anything obviously modern.

Pits: There is no public access to the pit lane, but nothing happens there anyway. The paddock with the most valuable cars is restricted to GRRC members but the rest are freely open and is where the work goes on.

Food: The NAAFI van offers the best value if you can find it (usually on the corner diagonally opposite "Earl's Court"). Nothing is particularly cheap, it has to be said.

Tickets: If you haven't got them yet DO IT NOW, Friday will sell out any minute. I have never bothered with grandstand, there is too much to see to stay in one place.

Thanks for all the good tips. Really looking forward to it. Regarding traffic, does "arrive before 08.00 am" also apply to the friday? Staying around Eastbourne) there doesn't seem to be much alternative to the A27 and I would hate to spend the morning i a jam.

It looks like Friday will sell-out this year so won't be any quieter I'm afraid. I just hop over the Downs from the north so I've never actually encountered the A27 queues but the reports always seem to be on the local radio quite early. All I can advise is the earlier the better, there is a great deal to see so you'll want as much time as possible.

for my experience last year, get there as early as possible. Walk around the paddock before the crowds get there.

Plenty to be seen within the circuit and where the car park enters the circuit. Stay for the final race of the day in the dusk (then try finding your car in the dark) It is a great day out.

See if you can dress up in 50s or 60s cloth - quite easy really, if you wife has not thrown everything out.

I've only ever been to Goodwood FoS or Revival when I was working (thus dressed in corporate gear)
IMHO Really worth getting up extra early and being one of the first to arrive. Mug of tea, bacon sarnie and feel smug about missing all the traffic.

One more tip: The first thing you encounter is the "Over the Road" show. This includes the Revival Car Show for pre-73 cars; Bonhams Auction; trade stands; the funfair, with helter skelter (useful for getting a view!) and "Wall of Death"; and varied food stalls.

Last year on another forum a gentleman from Belgium reported that he had a most enjoyable time there; in mid-afternoon he became curious about the stream of people crossing the footbridge and only then discovered that he'd spent the greatest part of the day in the car-park and had just a few hours left for the Revival itself!

Tempting as it is to linger, get into the main site while it is still quiet. The outside attractions remain open into the evening so save them for the trip back to your car.

I see Friday tickets are now also sold out this morning so hopefully everyone got them who wanted them.

I'm going down on sunday with my son. The traffic can be bad but then its generally a good class of jam. Tickets are always available right up the final week on ebay if you missed out and prices are reasonable. I've done this for the past few years as I'm always too disorganised to order the tickets in time. Do dress up. Everyone does and it really adds to the day even if its just a tweed and a cap. I think I'll be wearing mostly Suixtil this year or I may go for the Belstaff biker look depending on the weather. Do take a note of where you parked. One year I totally forgot and spent ages looking for my car in the wrong car park.
