I am in a fairly fortunate position of have a reasonable disposable income - and a girlfriend who supports my choices in spending a good chunk of it on depreciating assets. The only requirements are that there is a "sensible" car. The rest of the budget can be squandered on a "fun" car.

In the past the sensible car has covered by everything from a 1986 VW Passat 2200GT Estate to a BMW 530XD Estate - and pretty much everything in between.

The fun cars have gone from the Z3 2.2 (first dedicated fun car) to the most current, Alpina B3x Coupe.

I am in a rather strange position at the moment (outlined in another post) in that I am weighing up 2 very different cars as I seek to satisfy my automotive desires.

On the one hand is the new Alpina B3 (x-Drive touring) which would be bespoke specced with the upgraded Alpina Lavalina leather - along with a host of other options. And on the other, a rather handsome Morgan Aero Supersport.

The Alpina "wins" on: Performance (yes, it really is that quick), economy (just), practicality, useability, opportunities to drive

The Morgan "wins" on : Styling, sound, feeling special

Pricing is VERY similar - which is why the Morgan suddenly came back on the radar (and also featuring in the last episode of Top Gear) - but they are 2 vastly different ways of spending money. In the case of the Alpina pretty much all the budget will be spent on a practical car that can also do "fun". In the case of the Morgan the reverse is true - and a practical car will have to be purchased to run alongside it.

That is the background, now the questions, especially for Supersport owners:
- How "special" is owning a Supersport?
- How practical is one - luggage space? Cabin Space?
- How comfortable are they as a GT?
- How expensive are they to run? (MPG?)
- What did you come from? (Prior car)
- Would you buy one again?

The problem is I haven't made the choice. The Alpina is a stonkingly good all rounder - and I can spec the interior to the Nth degree. A factory visit is already arranged for that.

The Morgan just tugs at the heart strings in a way no other mainstream can can. The pricing also seems rather moderate - which could make it a longer term bargain.

Getting some owner feedback will help understand how useable the supersport is? And how special it feels?

(There is only budget for one extravagant car - if I opt for the Morgan the "practical" car will be less exciting)

Just out of curiosity...have you had the chance to drive an SS yet?....I mean a decent drive. Not a belt around the block.

That happens this Saturday!! B3 was 2 weeks ago - so the memories are pretty fresh.

(Which reminds me - I need to dig out a route to test the car on)
Edit: I think this should give me a good chance to get to know the car

Take your wallet.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Buy the BM give it a year then through it in and purchase the SS, that way you get both, but end up with the best one to keep indefinitely

- How "special" is owning a Supersport? --> it depends on how many other hand made cars do you own :-)
- How practical is one - luggage space? Cabin Space? --> luggage? A shoe box of 300 liters. Huge. Cabin --> limited. Intimate, I'd say
- How comfortable are they as a GT? --> not as comfortable as a 911. And... Who cares. I can make 400km in one day and get off still with a smile.
- How expensive are they to run? (MPG?) --> it depends from your foot. I can make 8l/100km or 25l/100km
- What did you come from? (Prior car) --> 911S (997)
- Would you buy one again? --> tomorrow. I do not regret not even 1 sec from when I bought it
