I don't have a problem with the blades going over the frame... only have two blades though, the 3 blade wipers came in later - '77 - '78 ???

Cheers,

That's why "my" blades are always off the arms when the car isn't driven for a considerable time (winter).

BTW: Unfortunately no end caps on blades for old Morgans.

I did a bit more wiper research today. There are two different lengths of blade, short for 2 seater screens and slightly longer for 4 seater cars with the taller screen.

However most if not all of the newer cars now have the taller 4 seater type screen and longer blades.

The shorter blades are shorter at each end, so if used on a taller screen you will lose swept area at the top of the screen (not good) and they might still be too long at the bottom (below the pivot).

The only answer to stop the blades going over the bottom of the screen surround is to shorten the blades at the bottom end below the pivot by about 1/2".

Has anyone else done this mod, I'm going to order some new blades and try this. It looks very simple to chop the bottom and crimp the end, to stop the rubber coming off. My blades have plastic end caps, these could be removed and glued back on.

I'm confused over the screens, I thought all 2 seaters irrespective of age have the lower screen.

Nope, you can have the taller screen as an option (or could...). May not apply on Sport models.

It's certainly not listed in the current price list, but then not all possible options are.

I would have thought it would have made too many problems to have two screen heights. Side screens, hoods, hard tops etc would all have to be made in two versions.

I'm pretty sure all current production cars all have the same higher screen.

In all that time no-one has found a solution, and the factory still uses the same mechanism and position of the wiper spindles.

I have that problem too and been trying to find a tip here on TM on how to solve it. Could of course just change the position of the arms on the spindles but then the arms will stay at an angle when at rest and that would be a bit annoying.
I've seen images on TM where the wipers stay parallel to the window frame when at rest. What's the reason for this difference?

Yes I have, my main dealer supplied me the wrong length longer blades and I could not be bothered to go back a return them. So out cam the junior hacksaw, I put them against the old ones ( rubber hard) and shortened them accordingly. I would say about 10-12mm.

cheers

Cheers,

Both my 4/4 and the Roadster have the standard screen fitted...11" in the centre. Surprising on the latter as the previous owner was 6' 7"!

I've not seen many fitted with the 4 seater screen.

The wipers on my Sport never seated properly, the ones on the Roadster have less flop and sit perfectly at the bottom of the screen without any overlap when in use.
