I dunno, ever since the XLR I've loved the more aggressive styling Caddy's had, it's definitely gotten rid of the "This is your one-foot-in-the-grave grandparents' car" image they've had. I did enjoy the '95 Seville STS we had for a while, except for the fact that it was front wheel drive.

Dunno who you were talking to, even what was once a Ford-specific performance shop around here (the one that supercharged my C5) has said "mustangs are toys for kids, corvettes are for when they grow up and want some real power and performance". rofl I definitely think the current mustang was a mustake as far as styling goes, even my Ford-crazy friends think the back end design was a huge error by the boys in blue-oval. That said, their V6 is putting out as much horsepower (maybe not torque though) as my older Corvette was when it was brand new, which is definitely impressive.

Must see if I can copy across a piccy of my cousin, on a recent visit to NY, sitting in a circa '70s 'Vette.

Late 70's through the '80s was when I visited USA most, so those are the generation of such cars I remember most...

Oh and lovely as it is I still prefer the C1 hide

He couldn't handle the power. wink

Looked better than in drove.

In fact, a tractor would be quicker and handle better. However, perhaps sit was the stack of American pennies bracing the steering column that exacerbated the situation! wink

Certainly one that was pretty to look at but didn't drive anywhere near as good as the 'sports cars pretension' would have you believe.

Now the new one is a different kettle of fish.

I think of any of the earlier generations (C1-3), I'd probably go with a C2 hardtop. I know from driving our '70 Barracuda what "old car" driving can feel like, but even that boat puts on a good show at times. I think I'd be willing to look past the technical shortcomings of a C2 just for the driving experience alone. The C3 early years (cannot stand how they neutered the styling in the 70's) are neat cars for sure, but you're getting into the era of smog restrictions and such which did more harm than good... funny considering how much horsepower even a 4 cylinder can put out today with all the engineering that meeting smog requirements has caused.

I've been wanting to go to the yearly Corvette get-together at the factory for years now, always something that keeps me from making the trip. Hopefully in the next year or two I can afford both the time and money to say "screw it, I'm going!".

Wouldn't mind taking another trip to Malvern at some point, last (only) time I've been there, I was about 10 years old. Still was utterly fascinated with the tour, though, as dad definitely raised a gearhead!

And speaking of my Corvette... my supercharged 2001 'vert just bit the dust. I got hit by a red light runner Monday night on the way home from errands, and just got told this evening that it's being totaled.

At this point I'm still sorting things out with my insurance company. I've already been informed that I'm getting quite a sum back from them, and that's before any tally of the mods I've done is added to the vehicle's value (most of which I'll be allowed to remove and retain).

I need to start looking into it, but I'm trying to determine whether I'll be getting another C5 or taking a serious look at getting a C6.

There's plenty of reasons why I'd get another C5, my overall knowledge of (and investment in) the generation at this point none the least of them, though there are a few reasons to move on to the next generation. I've learned about some "future issues" regarding availability of replacement electronics, and honestly, this may be the only opportunity I have to get into a C6 for a long while.
