Frank, the dampers are not causing the cracks when acting as dampers, only when acting as anti-tramps.
When the power is on and the propshaft puts the torque into the pinion, the crownwheel turns the halfshafts, together in the case of an LSD. With grip at the tyres, the axle casing will rotate backwards with equal and opposite force while ever there is equilibrium as the car accelerates. If traction breaks there will be a sharp rocking effect between power on and slip, and the part which controls most of the movement - these brackets, will be violently flexed.
That's whats going on. It would be less of a problem with no LSD. I don't have a LSD and this is my collection of broken bits..........and it's a Plus 4 that's doing it.

I can't follow all of the technical aspects of this, but is it something that 3.7 owners should be concerned about given the additional torque of the engine on, I assume, very similar parts?

There's no point in worrying about it as it may never happen. If it does it's no big deal. I was in Sweden when the mount broke so I tied the shocker back to stop it flopping about, drove on and barely noticed its absence. The original ones lasted for about 60000 miles so I suspect the heavy duty replacement must have been suspect as it failed after 5000 miles. If it happens again I'll start a new thread posting an open letter to the parts department and await the seemingly inevitable vituperative response from Boshly.

I don't have a LSD and this is my collection of broken bits..........and it's a Plus 4 that's doing it. I have to say I'm more convinced this is caused by damper resistance (plus occasional bump-stop contact) producing bending, rather than axle wind-up. Richard

The new ones are a tad thicker I think. If Plus 4's can break them then maybe the damper is part to blame but it doesn't explain why mine was pulled away from the backplate. All sorted now................. I've washered both sides. This is the tight access inside the brake drum.   You can see the thick washer here.  I've also increased the thickess of the washer on the stub. The one furthest away in this photo.

That's all the thread there is, but the nuts provided are deeper than the old nuts, so more thread engaged.
