Inspirational stuff, DaveW. So much that I too had a go at covering my steering cowl with leather.
I have only covered the top part as it was the gaping hole that I found distracting whilst driving.
(my photos were not very clear so I did not post).
Also hardwired in my CTEK charger cables. I put an in line fuse on the positive side. I no longer get the intermittent flashing charging lights that I observed with the cable connected to the 12V power socket.
Hoping to pick up some neoprene at the Classic Car show in November to copy some of your mods.

I must cover my steering cowl too. I've got a shed load of leather but all in various shades of browns. Must get my hands on some black leather!!
Thanks to Dave there will probably be a crowd of we TMers buying up all the neoprene at the Classic Show!

As a follow on to my last photo, I've added an aluminium plate covered in Reflect-a-Cool where the exhaust passes under the steering column UJ. When exposed to high temperature, the grease in the UJ can dry out and the UJ will wear and fail. This happened with my MGBV8.  Today I also smartened up the manifold flange which was rusty......  More to follow shortly.........

So next I made a start on the read mudflaps, using circuit boards from Maplins. They are copper faced, but it's not obvious here - in fact they look more like cardboard. Marked and drilled to fit the rear wing stays......  This is at the glueing stage, onto polypropylene sheet, in this case 10" x 20". Masked to keep the glue where it should be.  This one is notched to clear the chassis, and shaped to clear the exhaust:  Nearside fitted:  This is the rear, blacked with Dinitrol:  And that's the dirty jobs done for now. The front mudflaps will take a lot more effort. Right now, Bumble is back on his wheels and awaiting Saturday!!!!!

I must make up a set of those rear flaps Dave...great idea. I assume they are fitted to the stay using the overlap of the washers?
Looks like you have the Avon competition tyres fitted.

Absolutely - overlappped washers are great, and I have a large range on the shelf as you might imagine!
I may extend the flaps a couple of inches - tht's what I did with the Roadster eventually, but for now they'll do.
Does Avon competition mean no wet grip?

I had them fitted on the 4/4 Sport. In spite of their tread design they gripped well.
I seem to recall from the Avon website that they were recommended for wet weather competition. The classic road race tyre.
They will wear a bit more than standard tyres!
PS. Mine also had a habit of picking up gravel!
