I bought some bonnet stays a while ago, but can't figure out how they fit onto the bonnet to hold it open. I know the bottom end goes into a hole that needs drilling in the catch plate, but where does the top end attach to ?

The end of the sprung catch attached to the bonnet is solid, so I was considering drilling a hole in it, then bending the turned part of the stay at about 90 degrees to slot into this hole, but is this the right thing to do ?

Hi Matthew

My bonnet stay on my 1985 4/4 has a plate at the bottom that the stay is fixed to and allows it to lie down when the bonnet is shut. The top end of the stay pushes into the back bonnet clip spring , this holds it in place even in a strong wind. I hope this helps
