Just been out to check mine after reading this post. Took the plunge and fitted 185/70 Vredenstein about 3 month ago. Whew!!! Though not but had to check, no shrinkage marks/dents what so ever. Very pleased with the tyres. Transformed the car from the old originals. Not everybody’s cup of tea on a 4/4 but I like them.

I will look at Winter tyres when the time comes Nigel, like Aldermog I'm tempted by the extra grip, especially in the wet, and not too bothered how long they last.

I've just taken the plunge and gone for Avon ZV5s ......replacing the existing ZV3s and what the factory fit as standard. it'll save me changing the spare for a matching tyre as for some reason the car was fitted with 3's (dated 2007!) with a 5 (dated 2009) as spare when it left the factory in 2009. Using a local tyre fitter who when I said I had a Morgan and wanted it jacking up with care, laughed and said he's been taught all about that from Ben Duncan....Mike Duncan has all his customers tyres fitted by them....so hopefully I'm in good hands!

That is what I have on Aldermog: in 20,000 miles the rears were 2/3 wrn, the fronts less than half. So I took the spare - unworn, unused - and purchased one new tyre so I have rears that are new and fronts less than half worn.

Clearly I need to try harder to wear them out so I can get 5 new winter tyres!

Have you considered a summer and winter tyre such as the Vredestein Quatrac 3
I guess it will be a decent compromise although summer braking will be less effective that a top spec summer tyre.

G'Day, anyone tried putting AVON 175/15 (used to be 185/15)tyres on a relatively new 4/4. Have been advised by my repairer that they are good & a lot better in the wet than the factory fit 165/15 continentals.

Are you referring to the CR6ZZ tyres? I fitted them to my 2010 4/4 and was very pleased with them. Very good grip in both dry and wet even if the tread pattern doesn't look as though it suits the wet! The only issue was the tyres easily picked up gravel.

Avon recently changed the moulds so as you said, 175 are near enough the old 185 size.

Thanks John that is what is being recommended, during the repair to my 4/4 as they are supposed to be a lot better in the wet than the factory fit continentals.
