Bob, the only other downside I should have mentioned...well two really, they are expensive and they do wear faster. I was recommended Vredestein Sprint Classic as a good alternative.

I have Vredestein T-Trac in the original size.
Softer sidewalls than the Contis (van tyres) so a little softer on the ride without compromising the handling.

Firestone F560s are good in wet and dry, and in my view better than the OE Contis.

Out for a drive in the sun yesterday and as I was coming up to a tee junction an elderly gent kangarooed out and stop dead in front of me. The Mog pulled up on a sixpence just feet from his door. Smiled at the very sheepish looking chap and then said to “ I wonder where we would be now if I hadn’t changed those tyres”

Hi Peter, I only noticed this thread now and am very interested in your attached PDF file.

My car (+4, 2010) came from the factory with 195/60HR15 Yokohama tyres and I got to say I find them to be great, both in dry and in wet conditions. No complaints, I even did my first few hillclimbs with them and they did the job as needed.

(now I swap tyres when racing, never looked back after the first time I mounted 4 TOYO Tyres that totally transform the car. These are very low 195-50-15 tyres, but mindblowingly grippy)

With the Yokohamas, as I said, no complaints, except ... ground clearance. Even with all the care in the world, getting the car safely in and out of steeped ramps into/from underground parkings is very tricky.

I noticed you fitted tyres with the same width and slightly higher sides (65 instead of 60). From the PDF table you attached that ups ground clearance about one cm. Does it make a "real" difference? And doesn't fifth gear get too long, therefore hardly usable?

Thanks in advance, soon I'll need to buy new road tyres and will have to decide if I keep the current specs or go for something different.

I have not yet fitted them but I recall that a Swiss owner has and a couple of other people. It will make a small difference in the ratio and I may have to adjust the speedo. The Plus 4 has no problem pulling 5th gear and a slightly higher ratio for touring would be fine. Also I intend to fit a throttle body kit that will lift the output to about 180hp so that should cover it. The link to the tyre size calculator will give the table that I have in the file, it was the source of my figures, but will also give the change in speedo reading as a percentage.

I too have only just enough to clear the ramp to my garage and if the tyres are down a bit I do touch despite the fact that the rear springs were changed to 5 leaf springs under warranty just for this problem. I will eventually change the rear springs to the Suplex kit that is under development and I will probably change the tyres at that point.

Same tyres as MarioCP here. 195/60 15 Yokohama C-Drive factory-fitted.

They are great tyres in the dry, but I disagree with Mario in the wet. They are ok in the wet, but in a safety training we did comparisons in the wet, stopping, circle and the "elk test". Someone with a 4/4 and narrower tyres (looked like 155 all year tyres) was much better off, the Yokohamas were average, and a chap with Continental Sport Contact tyres did struggled with extremely long stopping distances, all in the wet.

But driving in the wet is not my main preference, so I stick with the Yokohamas, because on dry and especially warm roads they are very good and reasonably comfortable.

btw: tyre pressure matters. I run them at 1.7 bar cold, front and rear.
