I live in semi-rural South Wilts and our exchange won't get "fibre to the cabnet" until next year. With copper cables and less than half a mile from the exchange I get the sort of speed you report.

Possibly due to there not being a great deal of traffic? Whereas in urban areas there are a large number of users all fighting for bandwidth...

We have a BT Business connection that guarantees a lower "contention" ratio" = the ratio of the potential maximum demand to the actual bandwidth. The higher the contention ratio, the greater the number of users that may be trying to use the actual bandwidth at any one time and, therefore, the lower the effective bandwidth offered, especially at peak times. we are guaranteed better than 20:1

It is also unlimited capacity and costs us £27.00 a month, doesn't include anything else. My employer pays, whch is good.

Another bigt advantage is if there is a fault the call centre is in the UK and when we had a fault the service is stunning. they called back when they said they would.

As with so much you get what you pay for!

Just tested ours, which I have not done for a while. On a WIFI connection: 9.26mbps on the download and 0.81 on the upload.

This is with Alice, the equivalent of BT Broadband in Italy.

Alice?

What a brilliant name for a broad band service!

But I can't help but think of this song:

Alice

Would you believe in Italian it is pronounced "Aliche" because c followed by an i or an e takes the ch sound. Conversely, just to make matters confusing ch in Italian is pronounced like k in English. Alice is also a girls name in Italy but pronounced the Italian way.

This is why Alis's mother named her Alis because she wanted it pronounced the English way.

Round here we sing
