AIUI the rear of the front wheel is permitted to rub on the chassis plate (I have the rollers from Uncle Melvyn). No other part of the wheel or tyre is permitted to rub on any other part of the car.

So a quick rub over the brake reaction bars with wire wll before the MOT?

Yes, but only on the rubbing strake (or chassis plate as Tim calls it).

Then how about all the cars with tyre rubbing the inside of the front wing, seems to be a very common issue.

Where did you source the reaction bars from Dave? Regarding the top bolt would it make any sense to strap the spring to the shock absorber before removing in some way. I am intrigued where the problem lies in restarting the thread I assume it becomes mis-aligned. It is on my list of things to do before the 'season' I will post a photo of my 'spline cover' I picked up some aluminium vase inserts that are used for memorial stones that a nursery were selling off real cheap (50p) and I thought they will come in handy for something and they did they were made for the job! Any darkly lit cemeteries nearby

You can get roller rubbing strakes from Melyvn Rutter. Slightly reduce full lock but stop the rubbing.

The kingpin doesn't move, because it's held secure at the botton and by spring pressure. It's more a function of a large diameter bolt with a fine thread. You would think it would just restart, but the bolt had some lateral movement as it goes in and that's what causes the problem. The hard chrome kingpins from Mulfab have a different thread, and when you're refitting new pins it's much easier to restart the thread when the bottom is loose. The fitting instructions did mention not leaving the top bolt until the spring is tensioned.
I got the reaction bars from Mulfab when I was at Mog2013.
