No trip out today absolutely hissing down and lasting the day.
Reminded me of the Laying down and avoiding (the day) sketch from Monty Python.
A lot of people in this country pooh-pooh Australian table wines. This is a pity, as many fine Australian wines appeal not only to the Australian palette, but also to the cognoscenti of Great Britain.
"Black Stump Bordeaux" is rightly praised as a peppermint flavoured Burgundy, whilst a good "Sydney Syrup" can rank with any of the world's best sugary wines.
"Chateau Bleu", too, has won many prizes; not least for its taste, and its lingering afterburn.
"Old Smokey, 1968" has been compared favourably to a Welsh claret, whilst the Australian wino society thouroughly recommends a 1970 "Coq du Rod Laver", which, believe me, has a kick on it like a mule: 8 bottles of this, and you're really finished -- at the opening of the Sydney Bridge Club, they were fishing them out of the main sewers every half an hour.
Of the sparkling wines, the most famous is "Perth Pink". This is a bottle with a message in, and the message is BEWARE!. This is not a wine for drinking -- this is a wine for laying down and avoiding.
Another good fighting wine is "Melbourne Old-and-Yellow", which is particularly heavy, and should be used only for hand-to-hand combat.
Quite the reverse is true of "Chateau Chunder", which is an Appelachian controle, specially grown for those keen on regurgitation -- a fine wine which really opens up the sluices at both ends.
Real emetic fans will also go for a "Hobart Muddy", and a prize winning "Cuiver Reserve Chateau Bottled Nuit San Wagga Wagga", which has a bouquet like an aborigine's armpit.

I captured a few stills from the dashcam video. Sorry about the quality, I have the video running at a relatively low resolution then I also reduce the image size.

Anyway it let me get some footage of the view.
Oh oh! The pass (1173m)is closed. I should have been carrying chains too but I had left them in the garage.
Oh well, back down the other way
Suddenly stop start traffic after the first of two intersections with the roads leading to the ski fields.
Australia Day Car display for us yesterday. 10 MOGs in total on Macquarie Street, Sydney but the group got separated so we lost a champion Roadster and an Aero to another section of the display. Today, too good to be inside so jumped in the MOG and off for breakfast at Bobbin Head marina in the Ku ring gai National Park and to look at the boats...(I wish)

I used to live at Mt Kuring-gai when I was growing up. Bobbin Head, Apple Tree Bay, Berowra Waters etc were where we went for a swim, hiked or bicycled. They are places that haven't changed much in 60 years.

Peter, I suspect they were admiring the wonderful view ?
We have booked a road trip to the lakes at the end of may, and have already made a note to use the car ferry from Varenna - are there any other areas you would recommend, perhaps off the beaten track ? (we are walkers rather than townies). Big question I know, but thanks in advance.
If you like walking mountain trails there are an abundance of them around here. The mountain roads can be a little narrow at times and somwwhat unnerving if you are not used to them.
Above Varenna there is a road into the mountains and a place called Ortanella. There are some nice walks there that vary from easy to more difficult. The road over the Agueglio Pass and then around to Lecco through Valsassina is nice or alternatively back to Bellano and then Varenna again.
PS. You just might find members of the exclusive Morgan Club of Esino Lario. There are only two of us, a green 4/4 and our Plus 4, so it must be exclusive

Just got a Met office 'yellow' warning, it's gonna rain in the South East from 'now' until midnight Saturday, so that's another mogless weekend, so fed up with this rubbish summer - almost resorted to sitting in her in the garage making brum brum noises....
