Even with the quite spongy feel to the pedal, I have no problem locking up both fronts and rear.
Better tarmac grip is the way to go, if needed.

Do not feel I need any upgrades at all in stopping power, to be honest.

Will chip in here as I have given thought to this and tried bleeding the brakes and adjusting tire pressures to improve handling, acceleration and stopping.

The brakes are fine. The car is extremely light and doesn't have very much tire surface on the road. Too easy to burn out and too easy to lock up.

Simple physics. Mass and inertia at play.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

A slightly spongy feel to the brake pedal can be the result of new pads. However, if that was the cause, the pads should bedded in enough by the time 500 miles have been done.

What is far more likely is despite the best efforts, there is still some air in the system. You only need a teeny amount to cause a feeling of sponginess.

For something that refuses to bleed, sidestepping the pedal in the bleeding process can shock the system into parting with the air.

I fixed a Landrover clutch pedal that way, and I know my father used the technique when a car was being obstinate.
