Dabs did you drill through the baffles or something else?

38mm hole cutter, the front baffle is a solid plate with no holes in at all!

The baffles are stainless so I went through 2 hole cutters to finish the job.

Noisy exhausts are fun...for about half an hour...at the end of a few hundred miles you'll have ringing ears. Ask any tinnitus sufferer or any Harley rider over sixty years of age. They'll probably shout their reply..

I like to hear the engine note but not a constant braaaap, plus most of the British Horse Society will want to lynch you if it's too noisy!

Now, if a valve could be fitted somewhere we'd have a choice..

Nah, I drove mine last year for 9 hours with the wife, it's actually quite a nice loud noise we think.

As for horses they should be in a field or on a plate

I am up for a bit of hole cutting - a baffle with no holes is not a baffle its a blockage ! Dabs - which bit of the exhaust do you take off to get at these baffles ? I might start a bit smaller than 38mm

That's probably because there's a 400cell CAT squeezed into the ends of the header pipes - lose that and I am pretty sure things will pick up. What we need, as I've said before, is a proper Jap multi motorcycle-style absorption silencer that fits under the heat shield in place of the almost non-existent 'silencer' on the stock pipes. Those baffles (I think there are possibly 3 welded into the pipes) are the things that silence, but don't flow well at all. So when removed they are just plain noisy.

I am working on an absorption type silencer set for mine and will report back once I've made progress - they should flow as well as being less noisy than straights. In theory....

Will the mapping need to be changed to counter the loss of back pressure? If so, who will do it?

I think the Sports exhausts are just straight through with no baffles. I just want to scare children etc

My vintage trike is quieter than standard - and still frightens horses at over 100 yards. I can live with it, but you do need to be careful with a loud car.

There are 3 baffles, 1 at the front with no holes in and 2 at the back which you can see if you shine a torch up the tail pipe.

I measured the noise with stock exhausts for a comparison 93db.

Remove exhaust leaving header on car, cat is in header pipe, you can then get at the baffles with a very long hole cutter.

I cut a 38mm hole in a 44mm baffle leaving a 3mm shoulder which I can use as an anchor to replace baffle or use to introduce some sort of silencer in the future if needs be.

I'd take some pictures but there is nothing to see, it's just like looking up a length of scaffolding tube.

The noise is now no louder, still measures 93db, but is a different sound.

More hard edged and business like.

To be honest I'll be like a kid in a sweet shop if it pops and farts on overrun, flames would also be a bonus.

I was talking to a chap today who is a Porsche specialist in the next village and whom I have known for a number of years regarding the mixture, he said it will probably sort itself out as it is a closed loop system with all the mods done after the cat and lambda sensor.

Only time will tell.
