Charlie, to throw my iron in the fire: -

While I have not viewed this car personally I have spoken with the current owner and also have spoken with a impartial expert who spoke highly of it; therefore, I know a little about car 180.

You can also add to that: the previous owner is on this forum and kept the car in perfect condition (those who have seen his current car will vouch for him being fastidious). I am sure he will give you his opinion on the car as well.

Charlie, my advice would be to look at it and if you like what you see, have it checked out by an expert for peace of mind (although I understood it was being sold with 12-months warranty? and if this is correct, it should prove to be some insurance shoudl you require it); nevertheless, the mileage would not put me off.

Many people comment on the service intervals on Aero 8s being much shorter than a BMW with the same engine; however, the service isn't solely for the engine but also to review the entire car and ensure anything that can come loose is tight and as it should be. As a handmade product, these cars do need to be maintained and a loose car would lead me to believe it may have lacked proper service and tlc.

Nice looking car Shooter, but I think from both the year and the width of the rear wings, that you'll find it's a Series I.

Thanks Simon - much appreciated and you're right about the warranty. Car did appear to be very straight but it was wet and getting late in the day so inspection was limited!

Shooter - interesting you mention the silver car at RTCC - I took it out on Saturday and it drover very well indeed. Slightly put off by the interior (light-red), the mk 1 roof (although take the point about how it looks better down!) and one or two other minor things. The me the money also seemed optimistic, but I'm new to Aeros and may know nothing....

There is also mention of a blue car on the classifieds here and BHM's site - not sure if its still up for sale but from the photos it looks very good.

Blue car you refer to is Orthodocs car. Whilst you must naturally rely on your own inspection etc I can say that both having seen the car many times previously including St Tropez and knowing Bill and his fastidiousness (is there such a word?) I would suggest this is a good bet, and cheap as I have mentioned before!

Nah Boshers - the Aero is a roadster i.e. designed from the outset as a drop-top.

The Maserati is a chopped coupe, and thus a wobbly girly cab. Like my Porsche, which wobbles its way down the road. Blacmange like. You can feel the cellulite in the chassis.

Drop tops are essential though. In today's south east, driving is very often a traffic jam laden affair. A convertible allows you to enjoy even such driving.

I have been watching the market with much interest and Richard Thorne's seem inclined to price the Aero 8 that they have on offer considerably higher than others. I have looked at a few now and none have been in better condition than others on offer from personal sales and other Morgan dealers.

Going to discuss this openly as seems little point in PMs.

Silver and blue car probably the nicest looking S1 I have seen. Gorgeous colour, great condition. Steering doesn't quite centre properly and feels a bit slack, so something needs to be done about that. Engine felt strong, gearbox not very clonky (unlike mine ). If it comes with the 12 month warranty and service, £35k seems fair - but only if they sort out whatever is not quite right with the steering and/or front suspension. Felt a bit slack and was understeering in the wet slightly. Tyres looked fine, so I reckon it's a simple tracking issue. Car is ex Morgan, so while it may have been driven hard, it has been cared for - and the bodywork and wheels are immaculate after their factory refreshment. This would be my heart buy - it looks fabulous.

Silver RTCC car. Too expensive for it lacks the essential Sports exhaust and has done 18,000 miles. Tatty original roof (but the design looks better both up and down than the later versions!). However, lovely condition, very tight to drive (I mean really good, and one of the best I have driven - felt similar to my 9,000 mile example), and that red leather which looks so disgusting in the photos is actually a classic deep red (I think I'm blind though as Charlie reckoned it was light red!) that really goes with the silver. Negotiate the price and/or a sports exhaust fitted, and it would be a good buy. When my car was in the doldrums, I was going to make an offer on this when BHM called me and told me that my immobiliser issue had been sorted.

Orthodoc's car at BHM - haven't driven it. The light blue leather seats are an acquired taste and show wear badly (but like my grubby and initially worn looking Vanilla seats, they will look new after a valet). Personally, I prefer Aeros in light colours - but that's just a matter of taste. However, the car looks in nice condition, at a fair price. I can recommend BHM as a dealer. We know that the car is mechanically sound from the forum and from the runs it has done with other TM members.

The green car at BHM. A bit tatty (as mine was superficially) - but my experiences show that cosmetic issues are easily sorted to get a car back to A1 condition, if you have a willing seller. Actually looks great, that dark green/vanilla leather combination. Needs a sports exhaust though. Good price, if you can get some issus sorted or don't mind it not being quite perfect. Haven't driven it, so no idea what the mechanicals feel like.

Thanks Harry - usefull thoughts, particularly as it was raining cars adn dogs when I saw the blue car so very hard to tell the state of the body. Also had some interesting discussions around the 4.8 in the showroom at SGT but that would mean being totally without any Pork and, like 1 or 2 on here, that may be a bridge too far...!

The silver car was also my first drive in an Aero and it was massively better than expected - I was expecting old Aston and got big Caterham.

On a random note, has anybody clocked an earlier car from 0-100? Obviously the car is quick but I'm probably a bit over-careful of test driving cars on consignment sale (especially loved ones!!) so haven't got a very good feeling for the poke.
