0-60 is under 5 seconds according to EVO et al a while back. 0-100 I don't know though.

Big Caterham is a good comparison.
I too was very shocked at how well the Aero drove when I bought one.
As far as power goes....I'm used to some swift machinery and the Aero S1 never fails to impress me with it's acceleration.
It's so light and nimble too but you simply have to stick some Toyo 888 on.

Not all that quick 0-100; a well fettled Griffith 500 (most make well under the claimed 340bhp, but good, tuned ones make 320) and any subsequent TVR is faster in a drag race as they are the same weight or lighter but with more power. Most modern Porsche 911s are as quick too.
The Aero's appeal, to me, is in the way it delivers the power - it feels fast because it sits so low, and the noise and sustained, flat torque curve make it a joy to drive.
And also, while it may not be as quick as a TVR in a straight line, you need a Sagaris to stay with an Aero in the bends. Awesome handling - this, not the speed, is what sold me on the car. If I just wanted raw speed and special looks, I'd have bought a Tuscan II convertible and RAC membership.

Most modern Porsche 911s are as quick too. We were allowed on the track in Le Mans before the race in 2002, with the TVR's who went off first, and I had my Series I - 'Kermit' at that time. Me and another Aero 8, passed all the TVR's apart from two Tuscan S's - who were definitely quicker in a straignt line than a Series I and had a faster top speed down the Mulsanne. However, it was interesting to see them take the first Mulsanne chicane as they were all over the place in this, and several other corners. The handling of the Aero was definitely superior and it was difficult holding back and not getting too involved, as they were driving quite aggressively. There were some Griffith's in the TVR group as well, but I don't remember whether they were 500's or not, but they were not in the same league as the Aero 8, as you said TVR bhp-figures were always over-stated,and the four of us (2-Tuscan's and 2-Aero's)soon left the rest of the field behind. I know that this is just empirical evidence, but I think that it was a fairly accurate comparision of the cars respective capabilities.

Just to add to Harry's comments and as someone who has just come out of a well fettled Griff 500, off the line they feel very similar. Above 90 mph (circuit conditions only of course) Griff felt as if it had a bit more poke. Could it be that the Griff shape is more slippery, it certainly looks it.
If you look at empty weights of both cars a Series 1 Aero is probably lighter by about 50kg comparing apples with apples (my Griff had aircon & pas). As Harry points out Griff's 340 gee gees (and subsequently 320) are optimistic, whereas I'd imagine BMW's 286 to be all there. On torque there's not much to choose between them.
Whichever way you look at it both cars are pdq and short of back to back standing qtrs with the same driver I doubt you'd find much in it.
All imho of course
Cheers
Philip

Great stuff - cheers all. To be honest I reckon its quite an academic question as an Aero at 50 felt quicker than my 500bhp 2 ton 911 at 80 - a great thing imo.
More hunting is on the cards this weekend... I must admit though, I find it a bit odd the Mog dealers of the south seem to rely on commission sales at the £30-£40k end of the Aero market - I guess its either a mark of the relative rarity or maybe just habit/state of the market! Charlie
