I know what you mean John. I probably manged no more than 150 or so... Unfortunately I won't bring the Mog to work until something has been done about the bl..dy gulls. There are now sufficient number gathering in the mornings that the buildings company has missed another year to deter them. So the poor old Mint is going to suffer...

coming originally from Torbay I know that issue only too well Funny you should say that John whilst in Dartmouth earlier today I spotted a van with Birdbusters on the side. I knew a few of the local boys were pricking the eggs (under license) to prevent the next onslaught but whole businesses now are emerging. http://www.birdbusters.co.uk/#/about/4552894754

Gulls are a messy pest, but control has to be done with care: only 3, the Greater Black-Backed (Larus marinus), the Lesser Black-Backed (Larus fuscus) and the Herring Gull (Larus argentatus) are regarded as pests and can be removed under the General Licence. All others are protected so can't be disturbed.
This means you have to really know what you are doing, but the pest species can be shot and eggs removed.
Or bring in some nice big buzzards.

Living wihin sight of the sea, gulls (or sh*te hawks as they are known locally) are the main reason that Stanley has an everflex hood. However a Morgan owning friend who lives in Sidmouh encourages Crows to their garden to keep the gulls away.
I have just looked out of the window and my cooking car, which stays on the drive, has been covered. Bucket and sponge required.

Down here the buzzards are regularly seen off by crows...... Seagulls don't like the buzzards very much and do not like the sparrow hawks have seen the odd kestrel and the seagulls stop flying when they are about. Seagulls are a problem but at times I think pigeons are nearly as bad Pete

I don't know if it would work with gulls, but years ago the late great sculptress Althea Wynne gave my parents a gift of a statue of an owl which she had made. So lifelike was it that no birds would even visit the bird table until it was moved around to the other side of the house. It keeps them off the kitchen garden a treat.

The four vermin problems we have are pigeons, deer rabbits and moles. Together they force a man from his garden into his Morgan!
We are spared "Sh*t hawks, but believe me if we had them it would be war! Anyone know how to fit a sliencer to a 12 bore? (just joking!)
I've just had a large "fruit cage" built to keep the pigeons off and rabbits out of the soft fruiy and cabbages. Heavy netting and wire that goes down 18" to stop the bunnies. As long as I shut the door...
The moles have trashed the lawn to the point where I've given up. The deer? They can't get in the back but for 3 years running they nipped all the buds off the shrubs in the front. The winter of 2012/2013 the local estate had a cull, took out more than 40 deer and since then we see them only occasionally. But they will be back....
