Went to the Amelia Island Concours this last weekend. The weather was perfect, and on Sunday, the day of the Concours, there were 325 beautiful cars there. I got a case of spectacular car overload. The most incredible car there,IMO, was a type 57SC Bugatti, one of four made, but this one was made of magnesium, the only one ever made--valued at 38 million dollars but probably priceless. No Morgans in the Sunday Concours (far too mundane, I suppose,) but on the Saturday before, there was a show of cars from local car clubs held at the same venue--the golf club's 17th and 18th fairways at the Ritz. Three Morgans were there, including the beautiful red +8 owned by Mark Braunstein, Editor and Webmaster of our MogSouth club. Below is a photo of Mark's car. Notice the wood bonnet prop rod protruding from the rear of the bonnet? While I was talking to Mark just before this photo was made, a boy played with the prop rod and the bonnet came crashing down with a loud Blam! Mark calmly looked over and said, "That's all right, son, you can't damage this car" and continued chatting with me. You're the man, Mark! Allen '69 4/4

Err that 57SC, in magnesium... Unless I'm very much mistaken in the last couple of years has been a short series of articles in Buganitcs (the Bugatti Owners' Club magazine) on how that was manufactured.... Not in Molsheim. I'll see if I can find the relevant issues...

I'll see if I can find the relevant issues... I've read that as well G. I'm sure I read an article in Octane about building a replica in magnesium and the difficulty that material caused....made me think about Morgans interest in magnesium technology. I say "replica" , perhaps continuation, reconstruction, tool shop copy, are more correct as we are talking Bugatti!

Allen, thanks for the kind words.
Re the young boy, the loud bang actually scared him quite a bit when the bonnet fell. In general, however, I do think that we should't push the kids away now, if we want them to embrace the hobby in the future. There are far too many 'Don't Touch' signs on cars at shows. We have a show here in Orlando that gives a 'Kid Friendly' windshield placard to each show car.

Agreed with that - on the occasions I have my 4/4 sport on show - at the NEC, club events or even parked at Tesco - I am always happy to let youngsters sit in & look at the engine etc. Children love Morgans from a very early age & need to be encouraged - one bad experience can put them off for life.

I can proudly say I rode in that Plus 8 a few weeks ago and ate dinner with the owner. A real Mogan man like no other. Allen, I hope to meet you and see your Morgan in Charleston SC in a few weeks.

I was also at Amelia Island this past weekend, met Mark and his Morgan +8 at Cars and Coffee (very nice to meet you Mark). The Concours was excellent with wonderful weather. My joint favorite cars were the 1937 Frazer Nash, and the 1964 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato.
Did anyone speak to the owner of the black type 35 Bugatti parked just outside the entrance to the Concours? We were not sure if it was a "real" type 35 or a Pur Sang recreation. Would love to know.
