Here is my solution to the problem of carrying Travel fishing rods that does not encroach on the incredible amount of clothes my other half wants to take on holiday. I bought 2 very substantial and well made stainless steel and rubber motorcycle exhaust hangers of the same diameter as the rod tube and 2 stainless badge clips, ( self adhesive neoprene lined to reduce the diameter the suit the rack tube). The bolts have lock nuts and the tube strap goes round the wheel t bar as a secondry (belt 'n braces) retainer. The rods slide out so you can remove them for security along with your case on overnight stops without taking the tube off. The tube is 112mm diameter x 850mm long and holds 2 sea rods and a fly rod, you can get other diameters and lengths. All i need to do now is be allowed to fit the rest of my fishing gear behind the seats along with my meagre wardrobe….
The rack is the standard type without widescreen storage, but i am sure you could adapt to most racks.
Having seen Robbie's excellent brolly tube, I bought an aluminium one mail order from a dealer (unseen), only to find that it has similar dimensions to the one fitted by john k and so has never been put on the car.
But a couple of bottles inside.....there's a thought!

When i was fiddling with the tube and brackets, her Ladyship did ask what it was for (she is not over keen being a fishing widow) I told her it was to contain the Pimms umbrella for our summer picnics. I will take the consequences later….
