So in my relatively naive research into Aero 8's, I can but not notice that the S2 cars do seem to sound a lot noisier than the S1 cars, anyone care to offer a solution?
My thoughts were S2's have side exit pipes so closer to your ear, or shorter less effective silencers, or is it the simple matter of making more BPH, thus more air/fuel and hence more noise?
Killer question, can a S1 be made to sound more like an S2? I ask as the one S1 I drove with sports exhaust fitted was decidedly underwhelming, while the S2 was just epic.

IMHO side pipes make the biggest difference. Ale may be able to confirm.
I test drove mine and found its noise epic. Loud, bad and utterly LeMans GT3. Although, I will add to that, I have since learned to drive it a manner more considerate in a surburban environment, and doing so the apparent noise has lowered.
Anyway back to the plot, I then caught up with Ale - who astonishingly (and I am very grateful for) threw me the keys to his and I test drove that. At the time he had the rear pipes - and although it emitted a very similar sound - and perhaps a more coherent sound - it didn't have the same eruption/aggression/"370 Brian Blesseds" that the side pipes give.
Having walked down a path in trying to make a particular car sound better, and failing, I would try and find the "right" car for you. Although, I suspect, in the case of an Aero, adding side pipes isn't the biggest of challenges
As for out an out noise - a comparison between XKR-S and Morgan SS with side pipes: - XKR-S arguably more docile at city speeds - although gentle throttle openings can allow the Morgan to be discreet - XKR-S higher note - especially with rapid throttle openings - Morgan has a deeper, bassier not - across the entire rev range - Morgan is a warmer sound at lower revs - can feel slightly strangled in the mid-range (2,000-3,000) but epic above there - Morgan has a more historic sound - noticably less modern (IMHO)

In the next month or so, I hope to have my S1 Aero converted to side pipes as the sports rears are a bit too tame.
Also planning to fit the diffuser.
Shouldn't be too expensive.

Regards Andrew Hi Andrew Post some pictures of the side exhaust mods when you can.

The S1 and S2 also had different engines with some changes that may be pertinent.
The 286bhp in the S1 was a single camshaft profile and has an even power profile. The 330bhp in the S2 does certainly come more on-the-cam above 4000 causing a louder step in the noise from the sidepipes.
The S2 sidepipes (single) are modestly loud under idle and smooth cruise. They get loud according to the revs and how wide open the throttle is. In reality they would seem to be the best combination of loud when needed.
The Coupe sidepipes (dual) are LOUD under all settings. Very loud to shocking under fully throttle/high revs. As you outline the note is very deep and so pulses off windows etc. I was in an underground car park a few weeks ago, I backed into a single parking slot with concrete walls on three sides. During this moment at least three car alarms in the facing row got set off. Full on Marmite, either you thrive at the naughty or you wonder what kind of loon would do it.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I never used to drive my old Alpina B2.5 round the underground car park and blip the throttle to do just that.

Mine will look like single exit S2 with the alloy trim etc. and sports cats.
Don't want it too noisy in the cruise, but like a bit of noise when accelerating.
Deano, I see you are in Taunton, I'm in Weston, May use Williams, but probably Jetstream at Bruntingthorpe where I get my Noble serviced.

Andrew.......Where can you get a rear diffuser for the S1?
Personally I'm not keen on side pipes as they make the wonderful V8 sound like it's missing the odd cylinder as you're ear is closer so one side
I too want more noise and the answer is to have a system with much shorter silencers.

Does the Aero side-pipe system have the option of a balancer pipe (post cat) between the two cylinder banks? If so, the rather weird (to my ears at least) off-beat sound can be smoothed out, but the flip side is you lose a bit of power due to pulse-interference and less efficient cylinder purging. Sadly, as with many other things in life, you can't have it both ways! Ps Lee - saw your GT at GWBC. Looked awesome.

I am reliably informed that the S3/s4 diffuser fits on the s1 with a bit of fiddling.
I'll see soon.
