My throttle cable snapped while driving around the city yesterday. Only have 8000km on the car. Didn't stall as the computer kept it idling at least. Just pushed it to parking for now and will figure out the details on Monday. From my initial looks it seems that the cable broke about 12" from the gas peddle. I didn't notice any abrasions in the rubber sheath so not sure why it snapped.
Just an FYI and maybe consider taking a spare throttle cable if you are doing a long trip. It looks easy enough to self replace.
Anyone else had this happen?

Sounds like the goods old days when carrying essential spares was a routine practice.

Haven't picked up what car you have? But following posts on here and thanks to the help from Uncle Melvyn I now have a spare throttle cable for my 2008 +4 in the onboard spares bag
I say this in the full and certain knowledge of the first law of Morgan parts carried. "You never need what ever parts your carrying you will only need the item you removed from the parts bag because in 20 years you have never needed one".

I will say that over the many 50 plus years of motorcycling, snowmobiles, go karts, etc, I've never seen a cable break within a housing.
I can see how it could though of there were a very bad kink in the cable housing, like through a grommet or a piece of metal has caused a 90 degree turn. But I would think that the cable in those cases would not operate freely enough to function without a tremendous amount of return spring applied.
Either way a new cable will be needed and while re-routing the new cable, check for free flowing bends and no sharp bends.
