Hello

I have the above car and my windscreen wipers have started to fail. The Swipe will not work unless the stalk is held down for the cycle, the Intermittent moves the blades to a vertical position on the screen before stopping and then after the interval moving the blades to another position (not at rest). This seems to generate some strange noises from the windscreen motor. The other wiping settings of Standard and Fast work but I am concerned that this problem will deteriorate and I could be left somewhere inconvenient, and wet, without functioning windscreen wipers. Any thoughts?

Wiper motor is wet internally and the grease in the gearbox has more than likely turned to a conductive paste messing up the park position wiper.

Or maybe the brushes are simply worn.

Mine went odd is the Scottish rain. Same symptoms, swipe stops if you let go. And intermittent didn't park if switched off mid cycle. When we got back I cleaned the contacts in the plug and now it seems OK.

Check out the Stalk first.
The steering wheel stalks are Discovery and can be found on Ebay complete
or as just the stalk. The stalk removes with two screws, I'm on my 3rd wiper stalk.
Also check the relay under the dash.

My Defender did the same fitted a new motor and all was good. I think Morgan use a Defender wiper motor, only £80 ish and if the cable is ok you can get away with just swapping motor which is an easy fix on a Mog

I agree with Milligoon - sounds like a problem with the park position switch. This is effectively a secondary circuit that continues to send power to the motor when the stalk's been turned off, until the wipers reach their parked position, at which point (detail dependent on design of the motor) a non-conductive segment on a gear wheel will break the circuit. If it's got wet, or some in some other way the non-conductive bits have become conductive or vice versa, this system can get all out of sync, and not bring the wipers back to the right place before parking them.

Probably well worth a take-apart/dry-out/clean/reassemble cycle before buying new bits.

My Mog doesn't have an intermittent setting, unless you count the judicious and regular prodding of a left forefinger

I had similar problem with my +4.

I called them Morgan's new rain sensitive wipers. Go when its dry and stop when it rains.

The problem was in the electric switching and connections and was replaced under guarantee.

New one has been fine but does get a regular blast of ACF50.

Thank you for all the replies. I have learned quite a lot. I went for the first easy solution of drying the plug/contact option and it worked! Like DaveW then I am not overly confident that this is it but at the moment all seems well.
