Each summer for the last few years my wife and I have taken our two granddaughters (ages 12 and 15 now)on a two week vacation to another country. We've been to Mexico, Holland (twice), Washington DC (yes it is another country!)and France--this year it is England and Wales. We stay four days in London, then a rental car to Salisbury and Stonehenge, then a stop in Bath, then Stratford upon Avon a few days, then a stop by the factory for a mini-tour to see where granddad's Morgan was born. After that, on to Wales to visit some old RAF friend and maybe a short ferry and stay in Dublin, thence back to Heathrow and home.

Rented a Ford estate with a GPS--you gotta do what you gotta do with four people and lots of teenagers' luggage. Driving out of central London heading west on a Tuesday afternoon hopefully won't be too bad. We've lived in England before, so we know basically what we want to do on this trip, and we've been to the factory before several times, but years ago when it was very informal (back in the day, we shared tea with the wood-working crew brewed over the glue-pot gas hob.) Don't know what this short pre-arranged factory tour will be like--11:00 on Friday the 27th of June--all the girls want is just see a little of the factory.

Looking forward to our trip and hopefully some good weather.

Enjoy Allen - but I still prefer Orlando if you get the opportunity

You should visit the original Washington while you're here.

I would also recommend Avebury Henge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avebury
It is not so well known but it is larger than Stonehenge and has a good deal of its encircling ditch and mound intact. Best of all it does not have some many tourists and is free. You can wander around and even hug the stones if you so wish. Part of the village is inside the ancient site and you can get a very nice lunch at the pub that is in the middle of the site.

Whilst in that area you may like to visit Moto-Lita / Aviation Leathercraft https://www.moto-lita.co.uk/our-products/jackets.aspx

A shame I'll miss you by half an hour Allen.....I'm scheduled to take the 10:30 tour on the 27th. Still, perhaps I'll bump into you!

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Jays I believe I and two colleagues are booked on your 10.30 tour on the 27th. We will be in safe hands.

You mention Stonehenge, I was agreeably surprised to see that the old A344, which joined the A303 east of Stonehenge, has now been ripped up and grassed over. The awkward junction with its proliferation of ugly road signs no longer spoils the view of these ancient stones. (You can see how it was on GoogleEarth Streetview) Gerry.
