I phoned these guys the other day asking about a replacement hood and they quoted £390 + VAT for a 'mohair' or rather twill-fast type fabric one. They would use my old vinyl ones as a pattern and take 2 weeks. That's half the cost of the other cheapest one I could find !!

So, is it likely to be rubbish or just very good value ? Anyone use Don Hoods before for Morgan or any other car ? They seem like a big outfit from their website - http://www.donhoods.com/

thanks for any views

Don Hoods have advertised for a few years in TRaction, the house magazine of the Triumph TR Register. I assume that they must be OK or the Register would have dropped their advert if members had complained. I saw one of their hoods on a TR today and it looked OK.
I think they normally leave it to the purchaser to attach the fixing studs to the hood so check this out if it would be a problem for you. As you are providing a template, they may do it for you. If you do place an order I would suggest you ask for your old hood back for comparison purposes.

You're right there Ken, I will have to attach the fixings myself. Would I be naive in thinking this won't be too difficult ?! As Aeroman says, that's good advice about asking for the old hood back, even though it will be cut up to form the pattern.

I'm going to try to visit them when I get back from holiday to see the quality for myself and understand exactly what the new hood will comprise of as there are many little features on a Morgan hood that may not appear on other makes, and all these would make it more difficult to manufacture.

I'll keep you posted and if I go for it, I will upload some photos of the finished article with a report.

regards

Matthew, I notice Don offers a fitting service. Also I see there are two grades of mohair. Perhaps that explains why their price appears low. I would hope Don would talk you through fitting it.
