The speakers are fixed to the panel inside the cockpit in front of the door.

The panel apears to be aluminium. It doesn't appear to be a "part", so I guess it is cut to fit from sheet.

I want to fit speakers so I need to cut a hole in each one.

From what I've discovered cutting a hole in situ wuld be brave and courageous. Or stupid. There are wires behind it.

So I need to remove the panel.

Has anyone done this? I assume it is pinned to the wood. Is that correct?

I'll cut new pannels from 2.5mm aluminium so they make good speaker mounts and then glue and screw to the frame.

You'll need to unglue your carpets first Peter - Maybe provision for new carpets on the off chance that they don't give up easy.

Once you have the panel off you could see if you could accomodate 5 1/2 inch speakers it'll give you a broader range of choice when going the component route.

I thought you were avoiding a stereo in Aldermog, and preferred the engine noise?

I had, but I now discover that I "need" (Company Requirement) to be able to answer a phone hands free when "working" if i want to get £0.45p a mile for using the car.

Using an audio installation does it better than most other options. I tried the "ear thing" but it doens't work well in an open car.

I am not fitting a radio, but there are occasions when playing the i-Pod might be nice.

I think you will need a mic wind protected very close to your mouth for anyone to hear you!

Peter, I'm not 100% sure, but I think others have posted that there are speaker holes already cut in the panels in the footwell. If you press on the carpets can you feel them ahead of the scuttle role hoop?

On another point:

Given the current advice on the level of distraction caused by using mobile phones when driving (even on hands free) I'm surprised that this is a company requirement. Personally, I would question a company health and safety policy that allows it to be a requirement in order to claim reasonable travel expenses within the Inland Revenue guidelines.

If one reads the Guardian one would be tempted to think that french workers do not now have to answer work related e-mails after six but as so often the journalist got it wrong.

I put speakers in my +4 a few months ago. The holes for the speakers were already in the aluminium panel so just had to cut the carpet.

Holes for the mounting screws were not there and drilling these so that the speakers were aligned properly was the really awkward part.

Wires for the speakers were also there so made wiring easy

Peter, I would be very interested in the throat mike for use in the S2. I have been using a Jawbone bluetooth ear-peice which has been the best so far. Not ideal but most effective.
