Can someone please help me understand the differing body widths on new cars.

The 4/4 is narrow. How much wider is the Plus4? The Roadster?

Is there are big difference in the cockpit width?

My Three wheeler is snug and with the original heat stick position yo assault a passenger when using 2nd and 4th!

The current cars all have the same cockpit width and body tub. The difference in overall widths are due to the varying widths of the wings to accommodate the various wheel types.

Yes. However I would add that transmission tunnel width varies according to engine.
ie on Plus 4, the V6 transmission tunnel will be slightly larger than the Duratec, which means slightly less legroom in both footwells.

Cheers,
Vladimir

I'll put a tape across my recent acquisition which is an 1999 Plus 8 with Rover 3.9 Ltr p/u and centre lock alloys which are 7" wide.
These rims and Koni's on each corner have transformed this model's handling significantly over my previous 1994 Plus 8.

This is the look I like for a Plus 8 - meaningful IMHO.

I have already removed the climbing frame off the spare wheel.

The next things to be replaced with ultra low profile LED units are the Rear Fog and Reverse lamps, the existing square ones which aesthetically are a bad dream in my HO.

No front fog lamps or holes, no badge bar, this is my kind of car.

Once I've fitted the Aeroscreens and removed the windscreen I will post some pictures of my new girl...

She is in immaculate condition having resided in a London Village heated Mews, 21,000miles and original order and bills for everything during her life.

This is her prior to sale....

Anyway, as Jays says modern cars have same tub now, but not sure when, Budsters 4/4 however which if I recall correctly is about 10 years old is 1 inch smaller than my +8 at the rear just behind the doors.

The newer tubs like my RoadsterI think are about 1 inch wider at the same point as my 96 +8. If I recall correctly the ash frame now is a standardised build for all tradition Morgans.

The cars can look narrow due to variations in wing width, depending on types of wheels fitted, ie a plus 8 with 16" by 7" wires will have wing 0.5" wider than a +8 with 15" by 6.5" wires, same goes for other cars like a new roadster. I expect Little Red Rosie is slightly narrower than NeilM's with chrome 16" wires.

Hope this helps. cheers

Thanks Pete - It was a close run thing between Asbo's lovely car and the burble of the twin pipes howling away on full throttle and alternately popping away on over run.
The excellent condition of this car means that it will remain in my possession for as long as I have mobility, at which stage my Son and Daughters will inherit it as long as they promise to use it and not waste too much time polishing her.

Put 500 miles on her since picking her up Thursday lunchtime at Harpers so I'm enjoying her ok wink

"It's the keeper"

We shall have to meet up Pete sometime soon, I'm tied up this Saturday with ringing at a wedding in Harberton + Sunday morning a bit more ringing.

The weekend after we have a Church Tower open day on the Saturday and folk can have access to the top of the tower which affords a spectacular view / photographic opportunity of Blackpool Sands, Start Bay and Slapton etc.
Essentially it's a fund raise as we need 100K's worth of restorative work in the Belfry or we stop ringing.

Red Bull Air Race on the 17th August and that's all so I will leave it to you Pete to chose.
woohoo love

Nice car Richard. Those alloys look the biz! I like your idea of running with aero screens. I did briefly with my 4/4 before I sold it and it transformed the car! Sadly getting the screen on and off the Roadster isn't quite as simple so I've not taken the plunge with Nero.

I'm waiting for Williams to develop a folding screen system!
