Ian I'm probably a lone voice here....but I rather liked finding the traces of sawdust etc under my carpets, something you just don't get in any other car....so rather special.

I would like a better fitting and finished bonnet on one side but it's no use complaining about it...the car was built in 2009 and not 2014.

Well either the previous owners have sorted things or I never had the issues on my 2003 4/4 in the first place that others seem to be identifying. As I've worked on mine the parts and fittings etc seem to be well put together, things line up and haven't found any odd washers or bits under carpets.. I cant imagine the build quality was any better in 2003 than now or maybe I was lucky with the individuals who built it?

As a general point I'm always amazed when seeing so called 'specialists' workmanship. My last TR had some serious work and money spent on it by a PO but I found nuts and bolts loose, no washers fitted, just annoying things that are as easy to do right than do wrong.

If they are coming out of the factory with issues caused by nothing more than sheer carelessness then it shouldn't be accepted whether its a mass produced car or a hand built one.

I'm sure Aldermog has been driven, possibly thrashed, by many! Perhaps thatis why it uses no oil and spins to the red line in the first 3 gears. After 5000 miles the engine oil is still golden which means the eings have beeded in perfectly.

The rest of the car is in excellent condition, mechanically. The paintwork is flawless, I wish the paint on my BMW was as good.

If the rest of the car had been finished as well as the mechanical side then MMC would be delighting everyone. I'll probably order a new M3W in late 2015. We shall see what that experience is like!

The contributors to TM seem to be passionate about their cars and passion evinces all manner of desires and disappointments. I would love to have a new Morgan, see it being built, know that somethings will be far better and some things might not. In the end I know that when I wander into my barn there she will be and there will be days like yesterday when I will tell myself once again as I have many times over the last thirty years, how lucky I am (in many ways) to have a Morgan.

I bought a new Morgan from Peter Constable in Newtown Motors - don't know whether I was just lucky or that they did a proper PDI, but mine has been faultless now for 5 years!!

As most of you know I had a TVR S2 prior to the Mog, so in comparison I was delighted with the general build quality, paint finish, upholstery & so on when I took delivery of my Mog just over 3 years ago.

The only faults I've had with my 4/4 sport in 22000 km have been the so called enamel flaking off the badges, (decided to just live with it) the rear badge coming loose (refixed it), corrosion pitting of the mirror stems (I guess I'll eventually replace them with something of better quality), a spot of weld on the rear edge of the bonnet chipping the paintwork where it meets the body (5 mins with the dremel & a spot of touch up), one of the poppers on the tonneau breaking (fixed by BHM for less than a quid) & that's about it. I've also had to replace the front rubber floor mat as my heel has gone through it - tho' I guess you can just call that wear and tear. All in all, for me it's been a happy and painless experience.

+1 TVR's had similar issues and from what I understand other lower volume manufacturers are similar. This does not excuse your point 1 or 2. Fundamentally I think a Morgan is a good car, if it wasn't it would not still be here, would it?

+1, yes, I truly agree! My 25 yr old Morgan is basically a good car, original paint, technical and cosmetic sound! It's well cared for, lives in a humid free garage, and survises the tin tops. As with most of us all, I improved a lot at the Morgan over the years, spend a whole lot of money, but that's where we have Morgans for, isn't it? Every year, I find new things to improve!
But I agree that the factory should pay more attention to the details and finishing!

I suppose owning a Mog is really owning a classic car without the mechanical and corrosion concerns a 50 year old "classic" brings.

Comparing a 1955 XK 150 with a 1950 Mog the Jag would cost about £40,000 and eat 10% of that every year: rust would be an ever present worry. A good 1950s Mog would cost less, but have far fewer worries.

But a 2009 Roadster gives all the performance that the XK 150 gives, is totally reliable yet gives the same clasic car enjoyment for about the same price!

Looked at in that perspective the Mog makes sense. Even a new 3.7 that needs to be "fettled" to make it perfect makes a lot of sense as a 5 year investment.

I suppose that is why we buy Mogs and keep them!

Aldermog - I agree!

Its classic car motoring - but with "modern" benefits.

My pal gave up on his Healey 3000 - it cost him a fortune and was still not right. He wishes he had kept his Morgan!!
