So got a report from garage apparently need to replace hub and spindle I'll also ask them to check the brake disk and caliper carefully.

Does this match the load bearing explanations above

That appears consistent with a wheel bearing collapse.

The disc is bolted to the hub. The 'spindle' will be the stub axle.

You may be lucky and may not have damaged the disk or caliper; the pads will probably have prevented any scoring. Make sure that your garage checks the disc for 'run-out' - distortion.

Good luck and I hope that the bill's not too excessive.

Hi David

Sorry to say that sounds like classic damage after wheel bearing failure, take heart in the fact it could have been worse, the wheel could have come off and caused injury and a lot more damage. I would suspect at the reported 2 " movement the disc will have contacted the inner flanges of the brake caliper so essential to check those as well. Good luck with the repairs.
